Care home fish and chips for The City events

Care home fish and chips for your care home visit in The City

It gives the kitchen and care staff a change. On the menu are gravy, mushy peas and cod and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater care home summer fairs and themed afternoons.

Rural care homes near The City can feel a long way from the seaside, so a chip van visit is a special day. We cook inside the van, right where your residents are, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

How it works

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, park on the agreed spot, and cook and serve without fuss. In summer, The City has daylight until about 9:25pm, so an early-evening garden visit works well. In winter, dark by about 3:55pm, a lunchtime visit is better.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. A photo of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for residents.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

How to prepare

  • Keep space clear for residents at the hatch
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain

How to get a price

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the parking spot, access, numbers and serving time. A photo of the spot helps too. When you’re ready, fill in our quote form.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Weighing up a takeaway order against booking a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. We’re happy to send a quote so you can compare.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Why choose care home fish and chips in The City?

It is easy to arrange and a plan for residents’ diets.

These are some of the bookings we take in The City and Buckinghamshire:

  • Residents’ celebrations
  • Family days
  • Sheltered housing get-togethers
  • Day centre treats

Some homes in The City have links with a local church such as Church of St Paul, and a van visit can be part of a summer fête.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the event is cancelled or moved
  • The service time, and the cost of running over
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How much space the van takes up

Choosing a fish and chip van

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Compared with a takeaway delivery, the van cooks on site, so it is not lukewarm by the time it is plated. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is often good value, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. We will send you a quote.

Why us?

  • A menu almost everyone likes
  • We cover The City and the whole of Buckinghamshire
  • No kitchen needed
  • A van that becomes part of the event

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for catering vans: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will work through them with you.

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan service to match. Sending people up in groups helps.

What the van needs

Every site is different, so we ask about the spot and the way in before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • With the serving side away from windows
  • Not blocking ambulance bays
  • Access the van can manage

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Popular choices

  • Mushy peas
  • Sausage and chips
  • Gravy
  • Haddock and chips
  • Pie and chips
  • Cod and chips

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Involve the kitchen and care team early
  • List residents’ diets, allergies and portion needs
  • Let us know if smaller portions suit
  • Keep the van clear of emergency access

Visitors are welcome if included in numbers.

A regular date gives everyone something to look forward to.

The City questions

Do you come out to small places like The City?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

What’s the nearest station to The City?

The closest is Saunderton station, roughly 1.8 miles away.

Where will the van park?

In the car park or on the drive, away from ambulance routes.

Do you bring everything you need?

All the cooking happens in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site.

Can families and staff eat too?

Yes, and families love joining in.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Let us know about coeliac residents in advance, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

How fast is service?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Give us your numbers and service window, and we’ll plan service around it.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Yes, children are easy to cater for. Tell us how many children, and we’ll plan for them.

What comes out of the fryer

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it’s a favourite in colder months.

Cod and chips

Cod is the classic: mild, white and flaky, and it is the favourite in much of the south. It is battered and fried to order.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
