About our film set catering in Blacklands

Location shoots, commercials and wrap parties all suit a chip van. For unit base lunches and seaside shoots, we can cook mushy peas, cod and chips and sausage and chips and more.

For a location shoot near Blacklands, base might be in a field or farmyard, so ground conditions matter. We keep the menu short: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

Diets, allergies and planning

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Try these:

  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Agree how the base is left
  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Send the unit base address and directions

Used oil leaves with the van.

Tables or a marquee at base make lunch comfortable.

How we price a fish and chip van for the crew

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How far we travel
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • Your choice of menu
  • Parking and the way in

The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Getting an accurate quote

To speed things up, tell us:

  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • The venue or postcode
  • A photo of the parking spot
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. Photos of the spot and the way in help. To send your details, fill in our quote form.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van cooks in front of your crew instead.

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

FAQs for Blacklands

Which station is closest to Blacklands?

The closest is Ore station, roughly 0.6 miles away.

Can the van park in Alexandra Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

What do you bring?

The van comes fully equipped to cook. You just need a suitable spot and permission.

What does the van need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, close to where people will eat, and space for a queue. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

What areas do you cover?

We take the van across London and the South East, including East Sussex. Find your area.

What if we only have street parking?

Only where it is legal to park, or with a council parking suspension or road closure. Check with your council first.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

No, not as standard: batter is usually made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do before booking.

Is there a non-fish option?

Yes: sausages and pies, with chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

A closer look at the menu

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it is a favourite in colder months.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has a slightly sweeter flavour and a firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?

Some locations have nowhere to buy food. The van solves that. A chip van frequently compares well with a plated meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. We will send you a quote.

Step by step

We don’t cook ahead. Fish is battered and fried when people come up to the hatch, so it’s as fresh as from any chip shop. On a winter shoot near Blacklands, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:15pm.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. You get an access check and a quote.
  3. We arrange the van’s spot at the unit base with locations.
  4. We serve hot from the hatch when lunch is called.
  5. We clear up and get out of the way.

How to prepare
