Fresh fish and chips in Four Elms

Film set catering in Four Elms, cooked to order

A chip van fits right in at seaside locations. We’re often asked to cater seaside shoots and fashion shoots on location, serving pie and chips, cod and chips and sausage and chips.

For a shoot in a place like Four Elms, tracks and soft ground need checking with locations. We cook inside the van, right where your crew are, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

Allergies and dietary needs

Most events have a few crew with dietary needs. To look after them:

  • Confirm numbers the day before
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Plan bins and waste at base
  • Make sure we can reach locations on the day

We work to the lunch time on the call sheet, and a contact keeps us updated.

A dining area at base helps.

Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?

Compared with sandwiches on set, a chip van gives the crew a proper hot meal. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu and timing to match. A short menu is frequently the best value.

Why us?

  • Served hot, straight from the hatch
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • A menu almost everyone likes
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones

Four Elms questions

What’s the nearest station to Four Elms?

The closest is Edenbridge station, roughly 1.7 miles away.

Is Four Elms too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we’ll plan service around it.

What if lunch moves?

Yes. Tell us the lunch time and a contact on the day, and we will work around changes where we can.

Do you have documents for productions?

Every production asks for different things, so send us the list and we’ll go through it.

Can the van come to base?

Typically, if there’s level, firm ground. We will agree the spot with your location manager.

Is grass a problem?

That depends on the weather and the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and we’ll advise.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Planning the van’s spot

We will be honest if a spot won’t work. What matters most:

  • A level, firm spot at the unit base
  • Space in front of the hatch
  • A route in the van can manage, with no low branches or tight lanes

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Then everything is fried to order, so we time it to your schedule. Sunset in Four Elms is about 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; for dawn calls or late wraps, plan lighting at base.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check the route and the unit base and send a price.
  3. We agree the van’s position and arrival with the location manager.
  4. We set up at the unit base and fry to order for the lunch break.
  5. We clear up and get out of the way.

Planning help

Takeaway run or book a van?

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is typically simpler.

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. We’re happy to send a quote so you can compare.

About the food

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan, especially with curry sauce.

Prices and what affects them

There are no hidden charges: the price is based on:

  • Numbers
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • Travel, tolls and road charges

Travel, tolls and charges such as ULEZ can affect the price, so tell us exactly where your shoot is.

What we need to know

The more we know about your shoot, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • The date and time of the event

Send us the date, the address or TN8 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time, and you will get a clear price. Just send us your details through our quote form.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
