A chip van near Furzey Lodge

Film set catering in Furzey Lodge, cooked to order

A van can get a crew fed quickly within the lunch break, with no kitchen needed on site. We’re often asked to cater lunch at the unit base and end-of-shoot parties, with mushy peas, sausage and chips and cod and chips.

Rural locations near Furzey Lodge can be a long way from food, so a van at base is a big help. You’ll know what’s included before booking: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can hold the date.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we’ll talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A wrap party at a venue costs more. A van makes a relaxed wrap. Larger groups normally cost less per head, since the van and set-up are much the same for any size. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why Furzey Lodge hosts choose us

  • Classic food your crew already know
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy
  • Nothing for you to cook or clear
  • Quick service from the hatch

Choosing a fish and chip van

Planning a shoot in Furzey Lodge

Furzey Lodge is about 5 miles south-west of Hythe, in Hampshire. We take a fish and chip van for the crew to homes, halls, workplaces and venues in Furzey Lodge and the surrounding area. We cover all 683 towns and villages in Hampshire. We serve events right across the region, from Furzey Lodge to Southampton (8 miles away).

Crew coming by rail can use the station: the closest railway station is Beaulieu Road station, roughly 2.8 miles north-west of the centre. The New Forest National Park is within about 2 miles of Furzey Lodge, and locations in protected landscapes often have rules about vehicles. With the sea within about 6 miles, coastal shoots need a sheltered base, so plan where crew will queue.

Here we cover the SO42 postcode area, so your shoot can be anywhere in it. If your venue is just outside Furzey Lodge, we also cover East Boldre (1 mile south), Beaulieu (1 mile east), Bailey's Hard (2 miles east), The Hummicks (2 miles east) and Dibden Purlieu (4 miles north-east). Further out, we also take the van to Gosport (14 miles east), Eastleigh (12 miles north-east), Fareham (13 miles east), Totton (7 miles north), Chandler's Ford (12 miles north) and Hedge End (10 miles north-east).

Allergies and dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we will be straight with you about what’s possible. To get it right:

  • Ask for dietary needs on the crew info form
  • Send the unit base address and directions
  • Confirm numbers the day before
  • Ensure we can reach locations on the day

We set up at the unit base ahead of lunch, out of the way.

A dining area at base helps.

Step by step

The first sign we’ve arrived is usually the smell, about the time the first crew wander across. From then on, people come up as they’re ready. In December, daylight in Furzey Lodge ends around 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. In summer, light lasts until about 9:25pm.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Before we arrive

DIY versus a fish and chip van

For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and you get to enjoy the day.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
