A chip van near Kimpton

Working with your venue

For repeat bookings, such as regular staff lunches or annual fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Parks, greens and streets generally need permission for a catering van. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

How our film set catering works in Kimpton

Schedules move, so give us a contact on the day and we’ll adjust where we can. Typical bookings include lunch at the unit base and location shoots, with haddock and chips, sausage and chips and cod and chips.

Near Kimpton, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so a van at base is a big help. The menu is short on purpose: fewer choices means fresher food and shorter queues.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Share the base location and route
  • Confirm numbers the day before
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Send allergies to us in writing

We arrive at base in good time and set up.

End the shoot with a chip van wrap.

Planning the van’s spot

A good parking spot makes the whole thing easier. We need:

  • Permission for the van at base
  • Access checked by locations
  • A queue area clear of trucks

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

From the hatch

  • Mushy peas
  • Pie and chips
  • Crew lunches
  • Haddock and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Cod and chips

What happens on the day

There’s very little for you to do on the day: show us the spot, tell us when to start, and enjoy your shoot. The frying and serving are down to us. On a winter shoot near Kimpton, the light goes by about 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. In summer, light lasts until about 9:25pm.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Getting ready for the day

The menu, dish by dish

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the side most people expect.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan, especially with curry sauce.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is generally simpler.

How we price a fish and chip van for the crew

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • How long we serve
  • How many people are eating
  • The date and time of year
  • Distance and any road charges

Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. We set everything out in your quote.

Getting an accurate quote

To check availability and price, we need:

  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Where the event is
  • Roughly how many people, including children

Each quote is put together for your shoot. Start with your date, and we’ll check availability straight away.

Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?

Compared with sandwiches on set, a chip van gives the crew a proper hot meal. Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: hours, menu, travel, minimum charge and VAT. We set ours out clearly.
