How our film set catering works in Normandy

Fried-to-order service suits a lunch break, without needing a kitchen on location. Whether it’s event crews and location shoots, we will put together a menu of cod and chips, mushy peas and sausage and chips and more.

Rural locations near Normandy can be a long way from food, so lunch at base matters. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the service time and the menu.

Food your guests will love

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal, especially in winter.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Long shoots usually need a full catering unit. A van is great for short jobs and crew treats. Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

Why Normandy hosts choose us

  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • No kitchen needed
  • Served hot, straight from the hatch
  • Everything cooked to order at your event

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a few crew with dietary needs. To plan for them:

  • Arrange something for anyone with needs we can’t meet
  • Send final numbers the day before
  • Let us know about coeliac disease
  • Make sure we can reach locations on the day

We take our used oil and waste with us.

Pre-orders from the crew help on tight breaks.

Should I sort the food myself?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For a crowd, a van is typically simpler.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Space, access and the venue

We will agree the van’s spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A clear route to base
  • Space in front of the hatch
  • Permission for the van at base

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

What we serve

  • Sausage and chips
  • Pie and chips
  • Haddock and chips
  • Crew lunches
  • Cod and chips

How it works

You will know we’re ready when the smell of frying drifts over. From then on, people come up as they’re ready. Sunset in Normandy is about 8:55pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; for dawn calls or late wraps, plan lighting at base.

  1. We start with the location, call times and crew numbers.
  2. We check the route and the unit base and send a price.
  3. We agree the van’s position and arrival with the location manager.
  4. We cook to order through the crew’s lunch break.
  5. We pack up straight after service and leave the base tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

Ask for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. A picture of the spot helps too. To send your details, fill in our quote form.

FAQs for Normandy

Which station is closest to Normandy?

The closest is Wanborough station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

How far is Normandy from London?

Roughly 30 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, rather than made in advance.

What do we need to supply?

Let us know about power and water at the site in your enquiry, and we will say what we need.

Do you have documents for productions?

Tell us what the production needs and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Can you park at the unit base?

Normally, with a level spot. Locations will decide where.

Is grass a problem?

Normally, if it is firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so plan a back-up spot.

Do you cater wrap parties?

Yes, and crews love it. Send us the date and place.

For event organisers in Normandy

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we will confirm what we can provide.
