Film set catering for Whaddon events

About our film set catering in Whaddon

Shoot days are long, and a hot lunch on time matters. We park at the unit base and cook to order. Typical bookings include event crews and crew lunches at base, serving sausage and chips, pie and chips and haddock and chips.

Near Whaddon, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. Everything is fried fresh at your shoot, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and handed over as soon as it’s ready.

The process

Serving is straightforward: everything is handed over hot from the hatch. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy. At midsummer, Whaddon has light until about 9:25pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Getting ready for the day

  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

Your questions about a fish and chip van for the crew in Whaddon

Which station is closest to Whaddon?

Milton Keynes Central station, about 3.3 miles north-east of the centre.

Is Whaddon close to London?

About 46 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

How long will the queue be?

Keeping choices simple and sending people up in groups helps. Tell us your timings and we will advise.

What if lunch moves?

We can. Give us a contact for changes, and we will adjust where possible.

How do you handle allergies?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Fish and gluten are the main ones in battered fish. Send us any allergies in writing.

Is there a non-fish option?

Yes: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Our battered fish contains gluten, because standard batter uses wheat flour. Let us know about coeliac crew in advance, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

What areas do you cover?

About the food

Gravy

In the north and the Midlands, gravy is the side of choice, and it’s lovely with a pie.

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it’s especially welcome on a cold day.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, because of:

  • The minimum booking
  • The date and time of year
  • Distance and any road charges
  • The menu and how many choices

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your shoot.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Where the event is
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • A photo of the space and the way in

Still finalising the details? No problem: give us a rough idea and the date, and we’ll quote on that. Start when you are ready: fill in our quote form.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. We’re happy to send a quote so you can compare.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.

Why choose film set catering in Whaddon?

It works in any weather.

If you are planning any of these, we can help:

  • Stills shoots
  • Unit base lunches
  • Music video shoots
  • Seaside and period locations

Nearby historic houses include Bletchley Park (3.5 miles east). Period locations like these usually keep vehicles well away from the house, so agree the base early.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long service runs, and what happens if you overrun
  • Any minimum charge
  • When payment is due
  • If the price includes VAT

Choosing a fish and chip van

Space, access and the venue

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but a few things matter:

  • Access checked by locations
  • A queue area clear of trucks
  • Permission for the van at base

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.
