About our film set catering in Wintershill

Shoot days are long, and a hot lunch on time matters. A fish and chip van parks at the unit base and fries to order. We serve sausage and chips, mushy peas and cod and chips, and typical bookings are for event crews and fashion shoots on location.

Near Wintershill, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. We keep the menu short: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

Planning the van’s spot

Every site is different, so we will ask about yours when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • Far enough from set to keep noise down
  • A hardstanding spot at the unit base
  • Room for the crew to queue

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Not much: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, with a clear way in. Send us a photo if you are not sure.

15 questions to ask before you book

Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?

Next to a sandwich lunch, a chip van gives the crew a proper hot meal. Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

Why us?

  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • No surprises in your quote
  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • Bookings across Hampshire, including Wintershill

How it works

Because we cook inside the van, rain doesn’t stop us. It is worth thinking about cover for the queue, though. In December, daylight in Wintershill ends around 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. In summer, light lasts until about 9:25pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the route for the van
  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely

Organising for someone else?

Many venues set rules for catering vans: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will work through them with you.

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll talk you through the process. We are happy to liaise with facilities on parking and timings.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Add an allergy question to crew forms
  • Send final numbers the day before
  • Share the base location and route

We take our used oil and waste with us.

Bins at base keep the location clean.
