Fish and chip van for events in Dragons Green, fried fresh

School fairs and sports days work well with a chip van, with the school’s permission for the van on site. For community festivals and church fêtes and fish and chip suppers, we’ll put together a menu of chips, curry sauce and cod and chips for your guests.

Near Dragons Green, events may be far from shops and cafés, so a chip van is a welcome sight. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and handed over as soon as it is ready.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

At larger events, a van adds to the mix and spreads the queues. Larger groups generally cost less per head, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why us?

  • Quick service from the hatch
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones

Common questions in Dragons Green

Is Dragons Green too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

What’s the nearest station to Dragons Green?

The closest is Billingshurst station, roughly 3.4 miles away.

Do you bring everything you need?

All the cooking happens in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site and we will confirm what we need.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Can you feed our volunteers and crew?

Yes, alongside public trading or on its own.

Do you do festivals?

Often, yes. Send us the date, location and expected numbers.

How do you handle allergies?

Tell us about allergies when you book, and we will give you the allergen information and what we can offer.

What does the van need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, near your visitors, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

Space, access and the venue

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but a few things matter:

  • Vehicle access before the gates open and after they close
  • Agreement from the site for a catering van
  • Firm, level ground for the pitch

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

From the hatch

  • Chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Curry sauce
  • Haddock and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Cod and chips

Should I sort the food myself?

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is typically simpler.

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. With a van, it is fried on the spot.

How the day works

The van turns up at the agreed time, pulls onto the spot you’ve chosen and the hatch goes up. When the fryers are up to heat, service starts at the time you asked for. In Dragons Green, a midsummer event stays light until about 9:20pm, but by late September the light goes at about 7:05pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Preparing for the day

  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day
  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue

  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays

The date matters too: peak summer weekends and Christmas party Fridays book up first. It’s worth asking early.
