Fish and chip van for events in Halfway Houses

How our fish and chip van for events works in Halfway Houses

Food is fried to order, so nothing sits waiting. We are often asked to cater fundraisers and school summer fairs, serving haddock and chips, sausage and chips and curry sauce.

Events near Halfway Houses are frequently volunteer-run, so a self-sufficient van helps. Everything is fried fresh at your event, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and handed over as soon as it’s ready.

Event catering near Halfway Houses

If your event is in Barton's Point Coastal Park, the organiser will need the landowner’s permission for vehicles and traders. If you are organising a summer fair or sports day for a school such as Halfway Houses Primary School, a chip van is a crowd-pleaser.

Prices and what affects them

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Numbers
  • The date and time of year
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • How easy the site is to reach

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • The address or venue name

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. Photos of the spot and the way in help. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.

Working with your venue

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, we will work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Having the party at home? Send us a photo of the drive or the spot and the way in, and we’ll let you know if the van will fit.

Diets, allergies and planning

Nearly every event has some special diets. To plan for them:

  • Display allergens for each stall
  • Share any nut or allergy policies
  • Settle the pitch terms early
  • Tell us expected visitor numbers

We set up before visitors arrive.

A spot near the entrance or main ring works well.

Halfway Houses questions

Is Halfway Houses close to London?

Roughly 38 miles from the centre of London.

Can the van park in Barton's Point Coastal Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Is the food cooked at the event?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so food is cooked there and then, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Do you do school fairs and sports days?

Yes, once the school agrees where the van goes. Send us the date and the spot.

Which areas do you serve?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Halfway Houses.

Can the van come to our fair?

Send us the event details, dates and pitch information and we will let you know if we are available.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Typically, if it’s firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

What does the pitch need?

Tell us the pitch size and ground, and we will confirm.

About the food

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal.

Pie and chips

For a heartier option, there is pie and chips, perfect with gravy.

How it works

We don’t cook ahead. Fish is battered and fried when people come up to the hatch, which is why it tastes like it does at the seaside. Winter fairs in Halfway Houses are dark by about 3:50pm, so pitches need lighting; in late May there’s light until about 8:50pm.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your visitors.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Share the timings for the day
  • Clear the route for the van

Planning help

Planning the van’s spot

Every site is different, so we ask about the spot and the way in when you contact us. In general, we need:

  • Information about power and water
  • A back-up spot if the ground is soft
  • Confirmation the van can trade there

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.
