Fresh fish and chips in Hound

Organising for someone else?

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll work through them with you.

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Fish and chip van for events in Hound, cooked to order

Few things draw a crowd at a fête or festival like the smell of fish and chips. Organisers get a trader almost everyone is happy to queue for. Popular choices include sausage and chips, curry sauce and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater food for volunteers and fish and chip supper nights.

At a fête or show near Hound, a chip van brings hot food to a rural site. Tell us about the ground and the way in. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Agree how we will be paid: pitch fee, share of takings or minimum
  • Ask traders for allergen information to display
  • Plan something for visitors we can’t cater for
  • Give us an idea of numbers

Put bins near the queue.

A few benches near the van help.

What comes out of the fryer

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, great with chips and sausages.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips covers anyone who does not want fish, and it’s a favourite with children.

Space, access and the venue

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • Vehicle access before the gates open and after they close
  • Agreement from the site for a catering van
  • Details of any power or water on site

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

What affects the price in Hound

There’s nothing hidden: the quote reflects:

  • The length of service
  • The day of the week
  • Numbers
  • Distance and any road charges

Larger groups generally cost less per head, since the van and set-up are much the same for any size. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • A photo of the space and the way in
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where you’d like the van to go

Still finalising the details? No problem: give us a rough idea and the date, and we’ll firm it up nearer the time. Start when you’re ready: use our quote form.

Common questions in Hound

Can the van go to venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Do you come out to small places like Hound?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Tell us about any coeliac visitors and we will explain the options.

What does the pitch need?

Level, firm ground the van can reach, and room for a queue. Tell us about power and water.

Where do you take the van?

We cover London and the South East, including Hampshire. See all areas.

What does the van need?

Not much: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, that the van can reach easily. Send us a picture if you are not sure.

Do you trade at schools?

Yes, once the school agrees where the van goes. Tell us the date and where the van would park.

How long will the queue be?

That depends on numbers, menu and timing. Give us your numbers and service window, and we’ll plan service around it.

Occasions we serve in Hound

It is low-maintenance for organisers, because we bring what we need.

In Hound and nearby, the van turns up at all sorts of events. Popular bookings include:

  • Feeding event crew
  • School fairs and sports days
  • Village fêtes and summer fairs
  • Church fêtes and fish and chip suppers

School fairs, for a school like The Hamble School, are a natural fit for a fish and chip van.

What your quote should include

  • How allergens are handled
  • How many hours the van serves
  • How late numbers can change
  • If the price includes VAT

How to compare vans

A chip van compared with other options

Most events have a burger van. A chip van gives visitors something different. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Why us?

  • Rain does not stop the fryers
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy
  • Hot food handed straight over

How the day works

When we arrive, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Then everything is fried to order, so we time it to your schedule. Evening events in Hound have light until about 9:20pm at midsummer; after that, the pitch needs good lighting.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and where the van will park, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the van’s spot are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we park up and fry fresh for your visitors.
  5. Everything goes out hot from the hatch, and we pack up afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
