Fish and chip van for events for your event in The Haven
The van is self-sufficient on the pitch, so we need little help from busy volunteers. Typical bookings include sports days and agricultural and country shows, with chips, cod and chips and sausage and chips.
At a field event near The Haven, power and water may be limited; let us know and we’ll plan for it. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll be straight with you about what we can do.

The process
Rain does not stop the fryers, because the cooking happens inside the van. It is worth thinking about cover for the queue, though. Evening events in The Haven have light until about 9:20pm at midsummer; after dark, we need a lit pitch.
- Organisers send us the event, the dates and the pitch details.
- We confirm the date, what we need on the pitch and any documents.
- We arrive at the agreed time and set up on the pitch.
- We trade from the hatch all event, frying to order.
- At the end, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy.
How to prepare
- Make sure the van can get in
- Plan where the queue will stand
- Let us know who to talk to on the day
How to get a price
We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. You can send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers
Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll work through them with you.
Parks, greens and streets normally need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.
Planning for dietary needs
We take allergies seriously. Here’s how you can help:
- Have other stalls for special diets
- Settle the pitch terms early
- Agree who removes waste
- Tell us expected visitor numbers
Crew food is served at the agreed time.
Pre-sold meal tickets can help at fundraisers.
A fish and chip van or other catering?
Compared with a barbecue run by volunteers, a chip van frees your helpers. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. Every booking gets its own quote.
Why The Haven hosts choose us
- Quick service from the hatch
- Something for visitors to gather round
- No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up

The Haven questions
Is The Haven close to London?
Roughly 34 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.
Which station is closest to The Haven?
The closest is Billingshurst station, roughly 3.4 miles away.
Is grass a problem?
It depends on the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and send a photo if you can.
Can the van park on the street?
That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is typically simpler; for the street, check the council’s rules.
What do you need on the pitch?
A firm pitch with space for a queue. Mention any power or water.
Do you do school fairs and sports days?
Yes, once the school agrees where the van goes. Tell us the date and where the van would park.
Do you cover The Haven?
Yes. We cover London and the South East, including The Haven and the rest of West Sussex. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.
Do you bring everything you need?
We bring the van and everything we need to cook. You provide a suitable spot and permission to park.

What affects the price in The Haven
Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:
- The length of service
- Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
- The minimum booking
- How easy the site is to reach
Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We will tell you up front.
Details that help
You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:
- Allergies and diets you know about
- Where you’d like the van to go
- A photo of the space and the way in
- Anything awkward about the way in
Send us the date, the address or RH14 postcode and rough numbers, plus when you’d like to eat, and we’ll reply with a quote. Just use our quote form.

DIY versus a fish and chip van
You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.
For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and you get to enjoy the day.
