Planning an event in Westenhanger?

How our fish and chip van for events works in Westenhanger

A van suits shows and field events, if the ground is firm enough for vehicles. On the menu are cod and chips, sausage and chips and haddock and chips, and we are often booked for sports club events and race days and horse and dog shows.

At a field event near Westenhanger, power and water may be limited; let us know and we’ll plan for it. We serve from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

Before you choose a spot

If a spot is not suitable, we will tell you. The main points are:

  • A hard-standing or firm grass pitch
  • Access that avoids crowds
  • What’s available on the pitch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

How it works

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Your visitors can wander over to the hatch once service starts. Summer events in Westenhanger have daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer and about 7:00pm by late September, so evening trading normally finishes in daylight in high summer. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:50pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your visitors.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

How to prepare

  • Keep space clear for visitors at the hatch
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

DIY versus a fish and chip van

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Occasions we serve in Westenhanger

A chip van is reliably one of the busiest pitches at any fête.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. People in Westenhanger book the van for events such as:

  • Crew and volunteer catering
  • Charity fundraisers and community events
  • School fairs and sports days
  • Horse and dog shows

If your event is in Sandling Park, the organiser will need the landowner’s permission for vehicles and traders.

Organising for someone else?

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan service to match. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

One good hot-food van can be enough at a smaller event, with cakes and teas alongside. The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. It is worth asking early.

What you get with us

  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • A quote that spells everything out
  • All the chip-shop extras
