How our fish and chip van hire works in Blackwater

If the van can park there, we can fry there: a drive, a car park, a yard, a showground or a firm lawn. We are frequently asked to cater village fêtes and school fairs and staff thank-you lunches, with sausage and chips, haddock and chips and pie and chips.

In and around Blackwater, homes and village halls are common choices. If the road in is narrow, tell us so we can plan the route. We plan the timings around your day, so the food is ready when you want to eat.

What affects the price in Blackwater

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Access and parking
  • How many people are eating
  • The minimum booking

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

What to tell us

These details help us quote quickly:

  • Where the van would park
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Roughly how many people, including children

Not sure of numbers yet? That’s fine: give us a rough idea and the date, and we’ll quote on that. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

Should I sort the food myself?

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Working with your venue

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

For repeat bookings, such as regular staff lunches or annual fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can hold the date.

The process

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we simply start frying a little later, so nothing is cooked before it’s needed. In Blackwater, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Before we arrive

  • Have a level parking spot ready
  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

How to get a price

Planning help

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • A short menu helps everyone
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Ask about allergies on your invitation or sign-up form

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we arrive well before service. If timings shift, we adapt.

Somewhere to sit or lean makes fish and chips easier to eat.

Blackwater questions

How far is Blackwater from London?

Roughly 32 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Which station is closest to Blackwater?

Blackwater station, about 0.6 miles east of the centre.

Is fish and chips enough as a meal?

It is a full meal on its own. Many hosts add their own desserts or cake.

Can you cook in the rain?

We cook inside the van, so rain doesn’t stop us. It’s worth planning some cover for the queue.

Do you clear up afterwards?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, rather than made in advance.

Cod or haddock?

Let us know which you’d prefer and we will confirm the menu.

Which areas do you serve?

We take the van across London and the South East, Hampshire included. See all areas.

Before you choose a spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. These are the things we check:

  • Lighting nearby for evening events
  • Somewhere close to where people will eat
  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Sausage and chips

For anyone who doesn’t fancy fish, there is sausage and chips, and it’s a favourite with children.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Ordering a takeaway for a crowd means long waits and food that cools on the journey. The van cooks right there, so the batter is still crisp. Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: hours, menu, travel, minimum charge and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

Why Blackwater hosts choose us

  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm
  • Nothing for you to cook or clear
  • A menu almost everyone likes
