Fish and chip van hire for Brighton and Hove events

Fish and chip van hire in Brighton and Hove, fried fresh

A fish and chip van works almost anywhere the van can park: a drive, a car park, a yard, a showground or a firm lawn. We serve cod and chips, gravy and pie and chips, and we’re often booked for milestone birthday parties and garden get-togethers.

In Brighton and Hove, drives and parking come in all sizes, and most work with some planning. A hall or club car park is a good fallback. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed.

Food your guests will love

Curry sauce

The chip shop’s own curry sauce is mild and a little sweet, perfect with chips or a sausage.

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it’s especially welcome on a cold day.

How the day works

The van turns up at the agreed time, parks where we agreed and the hatch goes up. Once the oil is hot, the first portions go out at the time you asked for. In Brighton and Hove, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, the van and the queue need lighting.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we are done.

Preparing for the day

  • Clear the route for the van
  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

Planning help

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Parks, greens and streets generally need permission for a catering van. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Diets, allergies and planning

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Have bins and napkins near the hatch
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Keep the menu short to keep the queue moving

Bins and napkins near the hatch make life easier.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. With a van, it is fried on the spot.

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Ordering a takeaway for a crowd means long waits and food that cools on the journey. The van cooks right there, so it’s crisp when it is handed over. The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

15 questions to ask before booking

Brighton and Hove: your questions answered

Can the van park in Hove Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Which station is closest to Brighton and Hove?

Aldrington station, in Brighton and Hove itself.

Can you park on the road outside?

That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is typically simpler; for the street, check the council’s rules.

Can the van park on grass?

That depends on the weather and the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and we will advise.

What’s on the menu?

Fish and chips, of course, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

Do we need to provide anything?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there’s power or water nearby and we’ll confirm the rest.

Can you cater for allergies?

Let us know about allergies in advance, and we will tell you what’s in each item and what we can offer.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes, always. We fry to order in the van at your venue, and serve straight from the hatch.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • Parking and the way in
  • Any minimum charge
  • How many people are eating
  • The day of the week

Distance and any road charges make a difference, so it helps to give us the postcode.

What we need to know

To check availability and price, we need:

  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Expected numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • The address or venue name

We only need a few details to quote: date, address, numbers and serving time. To send them, fill in our quote form.
