Curry sauce

Curry sauce divides opinion, so we bring it along.

Fish and chip van hire in Cranmore, fried fresh

If the van can park there, we can fry there: a drive, a car park, a yard, a showground or a firm lawn. We serve mushy peas, sausage and chips and cod and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater summer garden parties and milestone birthday parties.

Somewhere as small as Cranmore, a field, yard or drive is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and firm, dry ground is the key. We serve from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and the queue keeps moving.

The process

We need time before service to bring the fryers up to heat, so we always arrive well ahead of your serving time. By late September, sunset in Cranmore is around 7:10pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 4:00pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the queue.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue

A chip van compared with other options

A big takeaway order arrives late and lukewarm. A van fries on the spot, so the batter is still crisp. Distance and any road charges make a difference, so it helps to give us the postcode.

Why book our van in Cranmore

Organising for someone else?

Having the party at home? Send a photo of where the van would park, and we’ll let you know if the van will fit.

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan service to match. Sending people up in groups helps.

Should I sort the food myself?

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

What a fish and chip van costs

Fish and chip van pricing is simple once we know the basics:

  • Parking and the way in
  • The length of service
  • The minimum booking
  • The menu and how many choices

Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

Cranmore: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Cranmore?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you serve near the sea around Cranmore?

Yes. Wind does not affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

What happens when we hire the van?

The van comes to you, cook fresh on site, and serve at the time you want.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Not as standard: batter is usually made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do before you book.

Where do you take the van?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Can fish and chips be the only food?

Fish and chips is a meal in itself. You can add your own desserts if you like.

Can you feed a lot of people?

That depends on how many and how quickly. Staggering groups and keeping the menu short both help.

Do you come to Cranmore?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, and Cranmore is within our area and the rest of the Isle of Wight. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

What the van needs

A good parking spot makes the whole thing easier. We look for:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • A route in without tight gates or low branches
  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service

Cranmore is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.
