Fish and chip van hire in Ford

Fish and chip van hire in Ford, fried fresh

The queue at the hatch is part of the fun. People gather, catch up and get their food straight from the fryer. We are frequently asked to cater Fêtes, fairs and school events and festive get-togethers, with gravy, haddock and chips and curry sauce.

For a rural spot like Ford, the setting does plenty of the work. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed.

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Put bins and napkins by the van
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Keep the menu short to keep the queue moving
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone we can’t cater for

Fish and chips is at its best fresh from the fryer, so we fry to order as the queue moves.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.

What the van needs

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the spot and the way in when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • Somewhere close to where people will eat
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • The site’s agreement to a catering van

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What we serve

  • Curry sauce
  • Pie and chips
  • Gravy
  • Cod and chips

How we price a fish and chip van

Your quote will be clear. The main things that affect it are:

  • Service time
  • Parking and the way in
  • The day of the week
  • Any minimum charge

Dates make a difference: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. It’s worth asking early.

Details that help

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Rough numbers for adults and children
  • The address or venue name

Still finalising the details? That’s fine: tell us the basics about your event, and we’ll quote on that. To start, use our quote form.

What comes out of the fryer

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Curry sauce

Curry sauce divides opinion, so we bring it along.

Ford: your questions answered

How far is Ford from London?

Roughly 39 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Do you come to venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we will plan for them.

How much is fish and chip van hire?

We quote for each booking, based on your numbers and timings. Tell us your date and rough numbers and we will reply with a price.

Can the van come to Ford?

Yes. We take the van across London and the South East, and Ford is within our area. For a quote, use our quote form.

Do you need power or water?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Mention any power or water available and we’ll confirm the rest.

Does the batter contain gluten?

No, not as standard: batter is generally made with wheat flour. Let us know and we will tell you what we can do.

What does the van need?

Less than you might think: a drive, a car park, a yard or a firm lawn, with a clear way in. Send us a photo if you are not sure.

Should I sort the food myself?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.

The process

We get there well before service, park the van and get the fryers going. Your guests can wander over to the hatch once service starts. Around midsummer it stays light in Ford until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day
