Fish and chip van hire for your event in Headley

We keep the menu to the classics: fish and chips, sausages and pies, plus the sides everyone expects. A short menu keeps the food fresh and the queue moving. We serve pie and chips, gravy and cod and chips, and we’re often booked for community events and fairs and wakes and celebrations of life.

For a rural spot like Headley, the setting does a lot of the work. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. We cook inside the van, right where your guests are, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

Looking after everyone

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Try these:

  • Tell us about vegetarian and vegan guests early
  • Plan something for guests whose needs we can’t meet
  • A short menu helps everyone
  • Plan bins near the queue

You shouldn’t have to worry about the food on the day. We park, set up, fry and serve, and stay in touch about any changes.

Put the menu up by the hatch so people decide while they wait.

Who books fish and chip van hire in Headley?

It needs no kitchen, so it is at home in car parks, yards and fields where plated meals are hard.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. In Headley, people book us for occasions like:

  • Christmas parties
  • Fêtes, fairs and school events
  • Fish and chip days at care homes
  • Wakes and gatherings after a funeral

Parks such as Nower Wood normally need permission from the council or landowner for a catering van, so check first.

Choosing a fish and chip van

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

  • A menu almost everyone likes

Before you choose a spot

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but a few things matter:

  • A route in without tight gates or low branches
  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van
  • A short walk from the party

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Organising for someone else?

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Headley: your questions answered

Do you come to venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Can you serve after a service at Church of St Mary the Virgin?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Which fish do you use?

Let us know which you’d prefer and we will confirm the menu.

Do we need to provide equipment?

The van comes fully equipped to cook. You provide a suitable spot and permission to park.

How much space do you need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, near your guests, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

How do you handle allergies?

We provide allergen information for everything we serve. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Send us any allergies in writing.

What happens when we hire the van?

We bring the van to your event, set up, heat the fryers and cook to order, serving from the hatch at the time you choose.

Do you need power or water?

Let us know about power and water at the site in your enquiry, and we’ll say what we need.

How the day works

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, park up and set up, the oil comes up to temperature, and food goes out hot when you’re ready to eat. Around midsummer it stays light in Headley until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we are done.

Before we arrive

  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Make sure the van can get in
  • Have a level parking spot ready

What comes out of the fryer

Curry sauce

The chip shop’s own curry sauce is mild and a little sweet, great with chips and sausages.

Gravy

Chips and gravy is a favourite in the north and the Midlands, and it goes perfectly with a pie.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the event.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
