Fish and chip van hire in Iffley

How our fish and chip van hire works in Iffley

The menu is short and classic: fish and chips, sausages and pies, plus the sides everyone expects. A short menu keeps the food fresh and the queue moving. On the menu are sausage and chips, mushy peas and cod and chips, and we’re often booked for weddings, especially the evening and garden parties and summer get-togethers.

A place like Iffley often has a hall, a club or a pub car park nearby; any can work for the van, with the owner’s agreement. We plan the timings around your day, whether that is a first dance, a lunch break or a service time.

Prices and what affects them

We’ll give you a clear quote. What affects it most:

  • The date and time of year
  • The length of service
  • Access and parking
  • Whether a minimum applies

Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

Getting an accurate quote

To speed things up, tell us:

  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Where the van would park
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • Expected numbers

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat. We’ll send a clear quote that says what’s included.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is usually simpler.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

Organising for someone else?

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Hosting at home? Send us a picture of the drive or the spot and the way in, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it works.

Why choose fish and chip van hire in Iffley?

On a grey day, hot fish and chips wins, and the cooking carries on inside the van whatever the weather.

Big or small, the van works the same way. Typical bookings include:

  • Garden get-togethers
  • Weddings, especially the evening
  • Staff lunches and team days
  • Fish and chip days at care homes

After a service at Church of St James, the van can be waiting at a nearby hall or house.

What to look for in a quote

  • How many hours the van serves
  • What the van needs: space, access, power
  • Exactly what’s included in the price
  • The deposit and payment dates

Questions from Iffley

Which station is closest to Iffley?

Oxford station, about 2.4 miles north-west of the centre.

Can the van park in South Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council. Ask them first.

Is there a non-fish option?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we’ll tell you what we can offer.

Do we need to provide anything?

Tell us what’s available at the site in your enquiry, and we will say what we need.

What food do you serve?

Chip-shop favourites: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

How much is fish and chip van hire?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on your numbers and timings. Tell us your date and rough numbers for a clear quote.

Do you take everything away?

The pitch is left as we found it. Bins for guests are worth planning.

How long are you on site?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we will agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A route in without tight gates or low branches
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • A lit spot if service runs after dark

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

The process

You will know we’re ready when the smell of frying drifts over. From then on, people come up as they’re ready. Around midsummer it stays light in Iffley until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a level parking spot ready
  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

About the food

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Ask us about offering haddock alongside or instead of cod.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips covers anyone who doesn’t want fish, and children love it.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Put bins and napkins by the van
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Fewer choices mean faster service
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we get there in good time. If timings shift, we adapt.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.
