Fresh fish and chips in Moss End

Fish and chip van hire for your event in Moss End

The queue at the hatch is part of the fun. People gather, catch up and get their food straight from the fryer. Whether it’s community events and fairs and staff lunches and team days, we will put together a menu of haddock and chips, pie and chips and curry sauce and more.

Somewhere like Moss End, a yard or firm field frequently works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Everything is fried fresh at your event, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

Perfect for your event in Moss End

Everyone knows what they’re getting, which takes the worry out of feeding a mixed crowd.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. People in Moss End book the van for events such as:

  • Staff lunches and team days
  • Summer garden parties
  • Care home visits
  • Fêtes, fairs and school events

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Garth Hill College, can book the van as a food stall.

  • Whether there is a minimum

How to compare vans

Should I sort the food myself?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the event.

Prices and what affects them

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • The minimum booking
  • How long we serve
  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays

The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. Ask about your date early.

What we need to know

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The address or venue name
  • The spot you have in mind for the van

Still finalising the details? No problem: tell us the basics about your event, and we’ll quote on that. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

Food your guests will love

Gravy

A pot of gravy turns chips into comfort food, especially in winter.

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Cooked fresh at the hatch, it’s hot, crisp and generous.

For planners, venues and organisers

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Planning for dietary needs

We take allergies seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Tell us about vegetarian and vegan guests early
  • Fewer choices mean faster service
  • Ask about allergies on your invitation or sign-up form

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we arrive well before service. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.

A chalkboard by the hatch with the menu keeps the queue moving.

What happens on the day

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Guests generally gather round the hatch as soon as we open. Around midsummer it stays light in Moss End until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, the van and the queue need lighting.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Make sure the van can get in
  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch

Planning the van’s spot

If a spot is not suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Questions from Moss End

Do you come out to small places like Moss End?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is Moss End from London?

Roughly 28 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so food is cooked there and then, rather than made in advance.

Is there a non-fish option?

Yes: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

Where can the van park?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, near your guests, with room for a queue at the hatch. Mention any narrow gates or soft ground.

Can you serve children?

Children are very welcome. Tell us how many children, and we will include them in the plan.

Is it a full meal?

Yes. Fish and chips with mushy peas is a full meal, and you can add your own cake or desserts.

Is grass a problem?

Usually, if it is firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so plan a back-up spot.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
