About our fish and chip van hire in Nash Lee

Queuing at the hatch is half the experience. People gather, catch up and get their food straight from the fryer. For evening wedding food and fish and chip days at care homes, we can cook curry sauce, mushy peas and haddock and chips.

Somewhere as small as Nash Lee, a field, yard or drive is frequently the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm ground matters more than anything. We cook inside the van, right where your guests are, so the batter is still crisp when it is handed over.

What comes out of the fryer

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Fried to order in the van, it’s hot, crisp and generous.

Pie and chips

Pie and chips gives people a filling alternative to fish, perfect with gravy.

Occasions we serve in Nash Lee

There is no kitchen needed, so it works on drives, car parks and showgrounds where plated meals are hard.

The van suits big events and small ones. Typical bookings include:

  • Visits to care homes and day centres
  • Garden parties and summer get-togethers
  • Staff thank-you lunches
  • Gatherings after a funeral

If you’re gathering after a service at a church like Church of St Peter and St Paul, a nearby hall car park or drive suits the van.

Nash Lee questions

Which station is closest to Nash Lee?

Stoke Mandeville station, about 1.4 miles north of the centre.

Do you come to venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

It depends on the ground. Tell us about it when you enquire, and send a picture if you can.

What’s on the menu?

Fish and chips, of course, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Can you feed plenty of people?

It can be. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we will plan it with you.

Can we choose cod or haddock?

Both are on our menu; we’ll agree the choice when we quote.

When do you arrive?

We get there in good time to set up. Timings are agreed in advance so food is ready when you want it.

Should I sort the food myself?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Weighing up a takeaway order against booking a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. We are happy to send a quote so you can compare.

Allergies and dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Keep the menu short to keep the queue moving
  • Plan something for guests whose needs we cannot meet
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We park, set up, fry and serve, and keep in touch with you about timings.

Let everyone know when the food is ready, so they do not miss out.

How we price a fish and chip van

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • Distance and any road charges
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Access and parking
  • How long we serve

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

What to tell us

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • A photo of the space and the way in
  • Rough numbers for adults and children
  • Allergies and diets you know about

We quote for each event separately, based on your numbers, timings and travel. To ask for one, use our quote form.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

A cold buffet is simple, but food sits out, and nothing’s hot on a cool evening. Fish and chips is fried to order and served hot. The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why us?

  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
  • A menu almost everyone likes
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Bookings across Buckinghamshire, including Nash Lee

How it works

Nothing is cooked before it is needed. Each portion is battered and fried as it’s ordered, so it’s as fresh as from any chip shop. Evenings in Nash Lee stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it’s dark, we need light by the hatch and the queue.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Before we arrive

  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Clear the route for the van

Ask for a quote

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. To send them, use our quote form.
