Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Ask us about offering haddock alongside or instead of cod.

How it works

When we arrive, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Then everything is fried to order, so we time it to your schedule. By late September, sunset in Ramsgate is around 7:00pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:50pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the queue.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the space for the van, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we park on the agreed spot and set up.
  4. We fry to order and serve from the hatch at the agreed time.
  5. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Get permission for the van from the venue
  • Ensure the van can get in
  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time

Planning the van’s spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. These are the things we check:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van
  • A lit spot if service runs after dark

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

A fish and chip van in Ramsgate: local details

Ramsgate is in Kent. Give us the address of your event in Ramsgate, and we’ll plan access and set-up before the day. We take the van to all 922 towns and villages across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. We serve events right across the region, from Ramsgate to Canterbury (15 miles away).

For a christening or celebration after a service at a church such as St. Luke's Church, the van can serve at a hall or home nearby. Nearby historic houses include Quex Park (4.4 miles north-west). Estates like these tend to have strict rules for vans, so check before booking. Ramsgate is within about a mile of the sea, so fish and chips feels right at home here. Sea breezes can be strong, so we think about where the queue will stand.

For events in CT11, CT12 and CT10, we just need to know where the van can park and a serving time. That could mean an event at a home on High Street, Church Road and High Street St Lawrence or the roads around them, as long as there’s somewhere for the van. With the A254 and A255 close by, Ramsgate is simple for us to get to for your event. Nearby, we also serve events in St Lawrence (1 mile west), Northwood (1 mile north-west), Upton (1 mile north-east), Broadstairs (2 miles north-east) and St Peter's (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Canterbury (15 miles west), Margate (3 miles north), Dover (15 miles south), Deal (8 miles south), Herne Bay (12 miles west) and Tower Hamlets (15 miles south).

A little further out are Westwood Cross (1.6 miles north-west) and Ramsgate Museum (less than half a mile south-east). Within reach you will find Sandwich and Pegwell Bay.

  • Schools near Ramsgate include Chatham House Grammar School (within half a mile south-east) and St George's Boys School (under half a mile east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Derby Arms (under half a mile north)

FAQs for Ramsgate

Can you serve after a service at St. Luke's Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Which station is closest to Ramsgate?

Ramsgate station, in Ramsgate itself.

What if we only have street parking?

That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is generally simpler; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

How long will the queue be?

Keeping choices simple and sending people up in groups helps. We will talk it through when we quote.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We clear the van’s area after service. Let us know about bins for guests.

What food do you serve?

Chip-shop favourites: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

Can you cook in the rain?

We cook inside the van, so rain does not stop us. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

Is everything cooked fresh?

It is. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Takeaway run or book a van?

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the event.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
