Fresh fish and chips in Stansted

Fish and chip van hire for your event in Stansted

Hiring a fish and chip van brings the chip shop to your door. The van parks up, the fryers go on and everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits waiting in a tray. For staff thank-you lunches and birthday celebrations, we will put together a menu of pie and chips, sausage and chips and mushy peas for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Stansted, a field, yard or drive is frequently the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and firm, dry ground is the key. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

A chip van compared with other options

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. A fish and chip van needs a level spot and permission to park, and the food is cooked to order. Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

Why us?

  • All the chip-shop extras
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • Bookings across Kent, including Stansted

Planners, venues and businesses

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Before you choose a spot

The van has to be able to get in and park safely, and a little planning goes a long way. These are the things we check:

  • Flat, firm ground for the van
  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

From the hatch

  • Curry sauce

  • Cod and chips

Choosing a fish and chip van

What happens on the day

On the day, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Then everything is fried to order, so we time it to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Stansted until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm, the van and the queue need lighting.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Questions from Stansted

Can the van go to venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Is Stansted close to London?

About 20 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack up and leave the pitch tidy when service is finished. Tell us where bins can go for people’s paper and trays.

Is a chip van good for a large crowd?

It can be. Give us your numbers and service time, and we will plan it with you.

What do you bring?

The van comes fully equipped to cook. You provide a suitable spot and permission to park.

Can the van park on grass?

It depends on the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and we’ll advise.

What does it cost to hire the van?

We quote for each booking, so the price fits what you need. Give us your date, numbers and serving time for a clear quote.

Is there a non-fish option?

There is: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

Allergies and dietary needs

Most events have a few guests with dietary needs. To plan for them:

  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Put bins and napkins by the van
  • Count children separately
  • Confirm allergies by email

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we arrive well before service. If timings shift, we adapt.

Somewhere to sit or lean makes fish and chips easier to eat.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
