Fish and chip van hire in Staplers

About our fish and chip van hire in Staplers

The queue at the hatch is part of the fun. People gather, catch up and get their food straight from the fryer. For Fêtes, fairs and school events and weddings and evening receptions, we can cook mushy peas, haddock and chips and sausage and chips and more.

A place like Staplers often has a hall, a club or a pub car park nearby; the van can work at any of them, with permission. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is normally simpler.

The process

We arrive on time, parks where we agreed. Once the oil is hot, the first portions go out right on schedule. Light matters for evening service: around Staplers, it stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, but by late December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting by the hatch.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we park on the agreed spot and set up.
  4. We fry to order and serve from the hatch at the agreed time.
  5. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Let us know the serving time
  • Name one person we can call on the day

How to get a price

Not sure of numbers yet? That’s fine: give us a rough idea and the date, and we’ll firm it up nearer the time. Start when you’re ready: use our quote form.

How we price a fish and chip van

Fish and chip van pricing is simple once we know the basics:

  • How far we travel
  • The date and time of year
  • The length of service
  • How easy the site is to reach

There is no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • The address or venue name
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • The date and time of the event

Every booking is quoted individually, based on your numbers, timings and travel. For a quote, use our quote form.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

Cold buffets are easy but forgettable, and nothing’s hot on a cool evening. Fish and chips is fried to order and served hot. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu and timing to match. Keeping the menu short is generally the best value.

Why Staplers hosts choose us

  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • A quote that spells everything out
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy

Read our pricing or the cost guide.

Before you choose a spot

We’ll agree the van’s spot with you before the day. It needs to tick a few simple boxes:

  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • Space for people to queue at the hatch

For somewhere as remote as Staplers, early notice helps us plan the trip.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

FAQs for Staplers

We’re gathering after a service at St Paul's Church: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Can you serve near the sea around Staplers?

Yes. Wind doesn’t affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

Do you come to Staplers?

Yes. We take the van across London and the South East, and Staplers is within our area. To check your date, use our quote form.

What about guests who don’t eat fish?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.

Is grass a problem?

It depends on the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and send a photo if you can.

Cod or haddock?

We serve cod and haddock; we’ll agree the choice when we quote.

What can guests choose from?

Fish and chips, of course, plus sausage or pie and chips. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy go on the side.

How do you handle allergies?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Tell us about allergies in advance.

Bringing the van to Staplers

Staplers is about 1 mile east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Give us the address of your event in Staplers, and we’ll plan the route and the parking spot. Staplers is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight we cover. We serve events right across the region, from Staplers to Southampton (about 16 miles away).

For a fundraiser at a school like Barton Primary School, the van can trade from a pitch agreed with the school. A green space like Seaclose Park is tempting, but a catering van there needs the landowner’s say-so, normally the council’s. Staplers is within about 5 miles of the sea, and fish and chips always feels right near the sea. Sea breezes can be strong, so we think about where the queue will stand.

Wherever your event is in PO30, we can fry fresh for your guests. Local streets include Pan Lane, Ash Road and Mews Lane; an event on any of them works well with a drive or nearby car park. If your venue is just outside Staplers, we also cover Barton (1 mile west), Cross Lane (1 mile north-west), Fairlee (1 mile north-west), Hillgrove (1 mile north-east) and Wootton (3 miles north-east). Further out, we also take the van to Ryde (5 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north), Sandown (6 miles south-east), Shanklin (6 miles south-east), Ventnor (8 miles south) and East Cowes (4 miles north). For an event at a remote spot, tell us early so we can plan the journey.

Nearby you’ll also find Isle of Wight Bus & Coach Museum (0.7 miles north-west) and Carisbrooke Castle (1.9 miles south-west). The countryside around Staplers includes Mill Hill and Briddlesford Nature Reserve.

  • Local schools include Medina College (0.8 miles north) and Island Innovation VI Form Campus (0.9 miles west)
  • Pubs nearby include Bargeman's Rest pub (0.7 miles west)

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Here’s how:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Tell us about vegetarian and vegan guests early
  • Have bins and napkins near the hatch
  • Plan something for guests whose needs we can’t meet

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we arrive well before service. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.

A string of bunting by the van makes a lovely photo.
