Fish and chip van hire in The Hangers

About our fish and chip van hire in The Hangers

Few meals are as universally loved as fish and chips. It is why a chip van suits so many occasions in The Hangers. For village fêtes and school fairs and weddings, especially the evening, we can cook haddock and chips, curry sauce and gravy for your guests.

In a rural place like The Hangers, fish and chips in a field feels just right. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. You’ll know what’s included before booking: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Working with your venue

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. Ask the council or landowner early.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Bringing the van to The Hangers

The Hangers is about 6 miles north-east of Hedge End, in Hampshire. For events in The Hangers, we can park on a drive, a car park, a yard or firm, dry grass. We serve all 683 towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 10 miles away.

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Bishops Waltham Infant School, can book the van as a food stall.

This part of Hampshire takes in SO32. We also bring the van to events in Dean (1 mile west), Upper Swanmore (1 mile south-east), Swanmore (2 miles south), Hill Grove (2 miles south) and Droxford (2 miles east). Larger places within reach include Winchester (8 miles north-west), Gosport (11 miles south), Havant (11 miles south-east), Eastleigh (7 miles west), Fareham (8 miles south) and Horndean (9 miles south-east).

Other landmarks nearby include Bishop's Waltham Museum (1.6 miles south-west). The countryside around The Hangers includes Beacon Hill and Bishops Waltham Branch LNR.

  • Local schools include Swanmore College of Technology (2 miles south)

What a fish and chip van costs

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • The minimum booking
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • How easy the site is to reach
  • The number of meals

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Where the van would park
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • A photo of the space and the way in

We quote for each event separately, so the price fits what you actually need. To ask for one, send us your details through our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Fried to order in the van, it’s hot, crisp and generous.

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. It’s the traditional favourite in Scotland and much of the north.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

A big takeaway order arrives late and lukewarm. A van fries on the spot, so it is crisp when it’s handed over. There is no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.

The Hangers: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like The Hangers?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is The Hangers close to London?

Roughly 60 miles from the centre of London.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes, always. We fry to order in the van at your venue, then handed over hot from the hatch.

What about guests who don’t eat fish?

There is: sausages and pies, with chips. Give us a rough idea of numbers.

Do you have allergen information?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Tell us about allergies in advance.

Who clears up?

We clear the van’s area after service. Let us know about bins for guests.

What does it cost to hire the van?

We quote for each booking, so the price fits what you need. Tell us your date and rough numbers and we’ll reply with a price.

What areas do you cover?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including The Hangers.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • A short menu helps everyone
  • Ask about allergies on your invitation or sign-up form
  • Let us know numbers for vegetarians and vegans

Once everyone is fed, we pack up, quietly and quickly.

A string of bunting by the van makes a lovely photo.

Planning the van’s spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. These are the things we check:

  • Flat, firm ground for the van
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • Confirmation that the van can park there

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

From the hatch

  • Cod and chips
  • Gravy
  • Curry sauce
  • Pie and chips
  • Haddock and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Mushy peas

How it works

Serving is straightforward: everything is handed over hot from the hatch. Afterwards we pack up. In The Hangers, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. Tell us what you’re planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance, and how it gets in.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Ensure the van can get in
