Fish and chip van hire in Wells-in-the-Field

Fish and chip van hire in Wells-in-the-Field, cooked to order

You can keep it simple or plan it carefully: open service, or food at a fixed time. We will recommend what fits. Typical bookings include summer garden parties and christmas parties, with gravy, mushy peas and haddock and chips.

Somewhere as small as Wells-in-the-Field, a field, yard or drive is often the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm ground matters more than anything. The menu is short on purpose: fewer choices means fresher food and shorter queues.

Should I sort the food myself?

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone we can’t cater for
  • Count children separately
  • A short menu helps everyone

Once everyone is fed, we pack up, quietly and quickly.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

A big takeaway order arrives late and lukewarm. A van fries on the spot, so the batter is still crisp. Travel, tolls and charges such as ULEZ can affect the price, so tell us exactly where your event is.

Why book with us

  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies

About the food

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it’s especially welcome on a cold day.

Mushy peas

No fish and chips is complete without mushy peas for many people.

Step by step

We need time before service to bring the fryers up to heat, so we always arrive well ahead of your serving time. In Wells-in-the-Field, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, the van and the queue need lighting.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Getting ready for the day

  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van
  • Get permission for the van from the venue
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain

Wells-in-the-Field: your questions answered

How far is Wells-in-the-Field from London?

Roughly 56 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s the nearest station to Wells-in-the-Field?

Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, about 1.1 miles west of the centre.

Is a chip van good for a large crowd?

That depends on how many and how quickly. A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving.

What can guests choose from?

The classics: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

How soon do we need to book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays and Christmas party Fridays. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

What about guests who don’t eat fish?

We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Tell us about other diets and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.

What is fish and chip van hire?

The van parks at your venue, we fry fresh and serve from the hatch.

Can you cook in the rain?

We carry on in the rain, because the cooking happens inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.
