How our funeral and wake catering works in Ladwell

We work quietly and simply. We park discreetly and serve when people are ready. On the menu are haddock and chips, gravy and mushy peas, and we are often booked for a favourite meal in someone’s memory and life celebrations.

For a wake near Ladwell, a farmhouse or village hall often works well. Food is served straight from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

Food your guests will love

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Ask us about offering haddock alongside or instead of cod.

Sausage and chips

A sausage and chips is the chip-shop classic for younger guests and fish-dodgers.

Planning the van’s spot

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • A spot near your guests

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What affects the price in Ladwell

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • The day of the week
  • Any minimum charge
  • Numbers
  • Travel, tolls and road charges

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. We’ll tell you up front.

What to tell us

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • Rough numbers for adults and children
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where the van would park
  • Dietary needs, with numbers

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. Photos of the spot and the way in help. When you’re ready, send us your details through our quote form.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Next to a buffet, fish and chips is hot and simple, and there’s less waste when numbers are uncertain. Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll suggest a menu and timing to match. Keeping the menu short is typically the best value.

Why us?

  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • Classic food your guests already know
  • A quote that spells everything out
  • Nothing for you to cook or clear

How the day works

Changes on the day are fine: we will adjust start times and pace. A wake in Ladwell in late autumn or winter may run into the dark, with sunset about 7:10pm in late September and 4:00pm in December.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for family and friends.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Get permission for the van from the venue
  • Make sure the van can get in

How to get a price

Each quote is put together for your wake. Give us your date first, and we’ll confirm whether we’re available that day.

Allergies and dietary needs

With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. We suggest:

  • Ask your funeral director to help estimate numbers
  • Plan seating for older guests
  • Plan for a few extra people
  • Name a contact for the day who is not close family

We serve when people are ready, not to a rigid schedule.

A tea table run by a friend is a comfort.

For event organisers in Ladwell

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will work through them with you.

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan service to match. Sending people up in groups helps.

Ladwell: your questions answered

Can you serve after a service at Church of All Saints?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is generally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do you come out to small places like Ladwell?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do we need to provide equipment?

Everything is cooked in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site.

How do you handle allergies?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Send us any allergies in writing.

What do we need to supply?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there’s power or water nearby and we will confirm the rest.

What food do you serve?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

Can a friend deal with you?

Yes. We are happy to deal with the funeral director or a family friend.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

No, not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
