Funeral and wake catering for your wake in Warnham

Wakes are rarely planned months ahead, so contact us as soon as you can. Popular choices include mushy peas, sausage and chips and pie and chips, and typical bookings are for gatherings after scattering ashes and family gatherings after a burial or cremation.

In rural Warnham, home or the hall is usual. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet.

What comes out of the fryer

Gravy

A pot of gravy turns chips into comfort food, especially in winter.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are a must for plenty of fish and chip fans.

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a few guests with dietary needs. To plan for them:

  • Cater for a few more than you expect
  • Keep the serving time flexible
  • Use the funeral director’s experience on numbers
  • Ensure older relatives can sit

A friend or the funeral director can be our contact.

Napkins and bins near the van keep things tidy.

What the van needs

If a spot is not suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • Flat, firm ground for the van
  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van
  • A lit spot if service runs after dark

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

From the hatch

How it works

Service is quick: food goes from the fryer to the hatch, and people can eat where they like. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy. Late-December sunset in Warnham is about 3:55pm, so for an afternoon wake, light near the van and the door helps. In summer, there is daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Warnham questions

Do you come out to small places like Warnham?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you serve after a service at The Parish Church of St Margaret?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Can our funeral director book for us?

Yes, that’s common.

Can you cook in the rain?

We carry on in the rain, because the fryers are inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.

Who clears up?

We clear the van’s area after service. Tell us where bins can go for people’s paper and trays.

Do you come to Warnham?

We do. Warnham is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

How much is fish and chip van hire?

We quote for each booking, based on your numbers and timings. Tell us your date and rough numbers and we’ll reply with a price.

How long will the queue be?

That depends on numbers, menu and timing. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we will plan to keep the queue moving.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. We are happy to send a quote so you can compare.

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

For event organisers in Warnham

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Parks, greens and streets normally need permission for a catering van. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.
