Planning a London party in Manor House? A chip van keeps you out of the kitchen, and works on drives, in yards and at hired halls. Tell us about parking permits. We serve from the hatch, so it’s hot and generous, and the queue keeps moving.

Manor House parties: what to know

Manor House is about 1 mile north of Highbury, in Greater London. Wherever your party is in the N4 area, we can bring the van to you. Manor House is one of 764 towns and villages in Greater London where we bring the van.

Thinking of using Chestnuts Park? Parks generally need the owner’s permission, frequently the council’s, before a catering van can park or trade. Guests arriving by train should know that Harringay Green Lanes station serves Manor House directly.

Parties anywhere in N4, N16 and N15 start with a parking spot for the van and roughly how many guests. Your party could be at a house on Vale Road, Eade Road and Swan Lane or the roads around them, as long as there’s somewhere for the van. Manor House sits on or near the A503, so getting the van to your party is simple. Nearby, we also serve parties in Harringay (1 mile north), St Ann's (1 mile north-east), Stoke Newington (1 mile south-east), Stamford Hill (1 mile east) and West Green (1 mile north). We also serve nearby towns such as London (5 miles south), City of Westminster (5 miles south-west), Marylebone (4 miles south-west), Kensington (7 miles south-west), St Pancras (3 miles south) and Shoreditch (3 miles south).

A little further out are City of London Maternity Hospital (1 mile west) and Arsenal Football Club Museum (1.2 miles south-west). The countryside around Manor House includes Woodberry Wetlands and Highgate Hill.

  • Schools near Manor House include Woodberry Down School (within half a mile east) and Arts and Media School Islington (0.9 miles west)
  • Pubs nearby include Beaconsfield pub (within half a mile north)
  • Parks and local facilities nearby include Hornsey (1.1 miles north-west)

Before you choose a spot

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • Lighting nearby for evening events
  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue

Manor House is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council parking suspension.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Manor House: your questions answered

Which station is closest to Manor House?

Manor House has its own station: Harringay Green Lanes station.

Is parking a problem for the van in Manor House?

It can be, so tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council suspension. We will work around it.

Can the van come to Manor House?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Manor House. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

Can you do something for the children?

Of course. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include them in your numbers.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. We fry to order in the van at your venue, then handed over hot from the hatch.

Who clears up?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

Can you cook in the rain?

We carry on in the rain, because the cooking happens inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.

Can the van park on grass?

Normally, if it’s firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

Occasions we serve in Manor House

Hot food beats a buffet that’s been out for hours.

Big or small, the van works the same way. Typical bookings include:

  • Family reunions
  • Naming days and christenings
  • Leaving parties
  • Kids’ birthday parties

Christenings and naming days often start at a local church such as Church of St Olave or Church of St Andrew, with fish and chips at home or in a hall afterwards.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If the price includes VAT
  • The deposit and payment dates
  • When final numbers are due
  • How much space the van takes up

How to compare vans

Diets, allergies and planning

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Check the street’s parking rules

We arrive, park up and heat the fryers, then serve as guests come up.

Plan cover in case of showers.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A buffet is easy but forgettable. A chip van gives guests something to talk about. Most vans have a minimum charge, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your party.

Why us?

  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • Something for guests to gather round
  • Rain doesn’t stop the fryers
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm

The menu, dish by dish

Gravy

Chips and gravy is a favourite in the north and the Midlands, and it is lovely with a pie.

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

How the day works

On the day, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Then everything is fried to order, so we time it to your schedule. At midsummer, it is light in Manor House until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

How to prepare

  • Let us know the serving time
  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely

Should I sort the food myself?

Some hosts try a takeaway order. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

How we price a fish and chip van for your party

There are no hidden charges: the price is based on:

  • How easy the site is to reach
  • The day of the week
  • The menu and how many choices
  • Distance and any road charges

Travel, tolls and charges such as ULEZ can affect the price, so it helps to give us the postcode.

What to tell us

To check availability and price, we need:

  • The venue or postcode
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • The spot you have in mind for the van

We only need a few details to quote: date, address, numbers and serving time. You can fill in our quote form.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
