Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A buffet is easy but forgettable. The van becomes part of the party. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

Why Withdean hosts choose us

  • A quote that spells everything out
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy
  • Quick service from the hatch
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather

How to compare vans

Organising for someone else?

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Hosting at home? Send a picture of where the van would park, and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

Space, access and the venue

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way. Here’s what we look for:

  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • Flat, firm ground for the van
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

Popular choices

The menu, dish by dish

Mushy peas

No fish and chips is complete without mushy peas for many people.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan, especially with curry sauce.

How we price a fish and chip van for your party

Fish and chip van pricing is simple once we know the basics:

  • How far we travel
  • Parking and the way in
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Service time

Distance and any road charges make a difference, so it helps to give us the postcode.

Details that help

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • The venue or postcode
  • Roughly how many people, including children

To get a price, use our quote form. Tell us about your party in Withdean, and we will check the date and send a price.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your party in Withdean

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. The cooking is inside the van, so wind doesn’t affect it, but the queue will want shelter.

Is Withdean close to London?

About 45 miles from central London.

Is there a kids’ option?

Yes. Children generally love sausage and chips. Include them in your numbers.

What does it cost to hire the van?

We quote for each booking, so the price fits what you need. Tell us your date and rough numbers for a clear quote.

Do you come to Withdean?

Yes, we do. We serve events in Withdean and across Brighton and Hove. Send us your date to check availability.

Is grass a problem?

It depends on the ground. Tell us about it when you enquire, and send a photo if you can.

What food do you serve?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

Do we need to provide equipment?

All the cooking happens in the van. Tell us about power, water and bins at the site.

How it works

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we have agreed, and get on with frying and serving. A summer party in Withdean stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Getting ready for the day

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Flag any coeliac guests
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Ask guests about allergies when they reply
  • Have a back-up for special diets

Plan where the queue stands if the van is on the drive.

A sign by the hatch with the menu speeds things up.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
