What affects the price in Bix

There’s nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • The date and time of year
  • How far we travel
  • How easy the site is to reach
  • Whether a minimum applies

Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is frequently good value, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. Ask us for a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Where the event is
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Your date and serving time
  • A picture of the space and the way in

We only need a few details to quote: date, address, numbers and serving time. You can send us your details through our quote form.

Wedding fish and chip van in Bix, cooked to order

Evening wedding food from a fish and chip van is a favourite. Hours after the wedding breakfast, guests are ready to eat again, and fish and chips from the hatch is exactly what they want. For engagement celebrations and evening wedding food, we can cook haddock and chips, cod and chips and mushy peas.

A wedding in a small place like Bix often means a field, a barn or a family garden. That’s where a chip van shines: no kitchen, just firm ground nearby. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Timings are planned around your wedding, whether that is a first dance, a lunch break or a service time.

Questions from Bix

Is Bix close to London?

About 37 miles from central London.

What’s the nearest station to Bix?

Henley-On-Thames station, about 2.9 miles south-east of the centre.

Do you have allergen information?

We provide allergen information for everything we serve. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Send us any allergies in writing.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Bix.

Do you take everything away?

We pack up and leave the pitch tidy when service is finished. Let us know about bins for guests.

Is grass a problem?

It depends on the ground. Tell us about it when you enquire, and send a picture if you can.

What if we only have street parking?

That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is usually simpler; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

What can guests choose from?

Proper fish and chips, with sausages and pies for anyone who doesn’t want fish. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy go on the side.

15 questions to ask before you book

Planning the van’s spot

Before the day, we will agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a few guests with dietary needs. To look after them:

  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list
  • Plan bins by the hatch
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who can’t eat from the van

Your venue coordinator or a nominated friend can let us know if things run late, so the food is still fresh.

Think about cover by the hatch for wet evenings.

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

A second sit-down meal in the evening is expensive and formal. A van keeps it relaxed. The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, since the van and set-up are much the same for any size. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Why book our van in Bix

  • Something for guests to gather round
  • Classic food your guests already know
  • Bookings across Oxfordshire, including Bix
  • Quick service from the hatch

Take a look at our pricing or our guide to van hire costs.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Food your guests will love

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the side most people expect.

What happens on the day

Because we cook inside the van, rain does not stop us. It’s worth thinking about cover for the queue, though. In Bix, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting by the van.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We come back with availability and a clear price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance.
  4. On the day, everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits in a hot cabinet.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

Preparing for the day

  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Have a level parking spot ready
  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
