A fish and chip van or other catering?

A second sit-down meal in the evening is expensive and formal. A van keeps it relaxed. A chip van often compares well with a plated meal, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. We’ll send you a quote.

Wedding fish and chip van in Brasted, cooked to order

Some evening guests arrive without having eaten, while day guests last ate in the afternoon. Fresh fish and chips suits everyone. We serve cod and chips, mushy peas and sausage and chips, and we are often booked for laid-back receptions and barn and farm weddings.

For a wedding in Brasted, think about where a catering van can stop. Ask your venue about a loading bay or yard, which suits a chip van well. Food is served straight from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and the queue keeps moving.

How we price a fish and chip van for your wedding

There are no hidden charges: the quote reflects:

  • Access and parking
  • The date and time of year
  • How far we travel
  • Whether a minimum applies

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.

What we need to know

The more we know about your wedding, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • Expected numbers

We quote for each event separately, based on your numbers, timings and travel. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

If a spot is not suitable, we will tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • Access wide and high enough for the van
  • The site’s agreement to a catering van

As a London location, Brasted is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about off-street space or permits.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Common questions in Brasted

Which station is closest to Brasted?

The closest is Dunton Green station, roughly 3.1 miles away.

Can the van go to venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

When do you arrive?

It depends on numbers and the service time. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

How many portions do we need?

That depends on your day. Most couples plan for most of their evening guests.

Is grass a problem?

Typically, if it’s firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

Of course. It’s our most popular wedding booking. Tell us your date and venue.

Do you have allergen information?

Tell us about allergies when you book, and we’ll give you the allergen information.

What happens if it rains?

We cook inside the van, so rain doesn’t stop us. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

Step by step

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we simply start frying a little later, so nothing is cooked before it’s needed. Golden-hour photos in Brasted at midsummer come around 9:20pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We come back with availability and a clear price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

How to prepare

  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain

Planning help

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Confirm the van can park at the venue
  • Plan bins by the hatch
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease

Most couples serve evening food between about 8pm and 9:30pm, once the first dance is done and before the party really gets going.

A string of lights by the hatch makes a great photo.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Food your guests will love

Curry sauce

Some people will not eat chips without curry sauce, so we bring it along.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has a slightly sweeter flavour and a firmer flake. It is the traditional favourite in Scotland and much of the north.
