Wedding fish and chip van for your wedding in Hill Head

Evening food keeps the party going, and few things are as welcome as hot fish and chips after a long day. Whether it is rustic farm weddings and weddings in a marquee or garden, we will put together a menu of mushy peas, cod and chips and haddock and chips and more.

A wedding in a small place like Hill Head often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A chip van is made for that: no kitchen needed, just a firm spot near the party. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will be straight with you about what we can do.

Should I sort the food myself?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Planning for dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To plan for them:

  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list
  • Put bins near the van
  • Don’t forget your suppliers
  • Confirm the van can park at the venue

Evening food normally goes out between about 8pm and 9:30pm, after the first dance.

Napkins or wet wipes by the van are a kindness to anyone in their wedding best.

About the food

Cod and chips

Cod has big, soft white flakes and a mild flavour, and it’s what most people in the south ask for. We batter it and fry it to order.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the side most people expect.

Events we cater in Hill Head

It’s food every generation enjoys, from flower girls to grandparents.

We can help if you are planning any of the following:

  • Second-day and after-party food
  • Engagement celebrations
  • Seaside-themed weddings
  • Relaxed, informal receptions

For outdoor photos, West of the River Alver is close by.

What to look for in a quote

  • What the van needs: space, access, power
  • What happens if plans change
  • How many hours the van serves
  • VAT, if it applies

How to compare vans

A chip van compared with other options

Hog roasts are a wedding favourite, but it is one dish, and some guests do not eat pork. A chip van offers fish, sausages and pies. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu and timing to match. A short menu is often the best value.

What you get with us

  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • A menu almost everyone likes
  • All the chip-shop extras

Questions from Hill Head

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. The cooking is inside the van, so wind doesn’t affect it, but the queue will want shelter.

Is Hill Head too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

How long does set-up take?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

Do we need to provide equipment?

The van comes fully equipped to cook. You just need a suitable spot and permission.

Can the van come to Hill Head?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, and Hill Head is within our area and the rest of Hampshire. To check your date, use our quote form.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Our battered fish contains gluten, because standard batter uses wheat flour. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance, and we will be straight with you about what’s possible.

Does every evening guest need to eat?

It depends on how much was served earlier and when the evening food goes out. Most couples plan for most of their evening guests, not all.

What about guests who don’t eat fish?

There is: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

How the day works

The van turns up at the agreed time, parks where we agreed and the hatch goes up. When the fryers are up to heat, service starts right on schedule. At a December wedding in Hill Head, it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the route from the reception to the van needs lighting, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.
