Wedding fish and chip van in Newtown, cooked to order

Some couples book the van for the wedding breakfast at a relaxed, informal wedding. Most book it for the evening, when it is most welcome. We’re frequently asked to cater pre-wedding get-togethers and vow renewal parties, serving sausage and chips, cod and chips and mushy peas.

For a smaller place like Newtown, a garden or farm wedding is often the dream. We need a firm spot and access. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the service time and the menu.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Add an allergy question to your RSVP card
  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list
  • Confirm the van can park at the venue
  • Plan something for guests we cannot cater for

Your venue coordinator or a nominated friend can let us know if things run late.

Let the DJ or band announce when the food is ready.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

How the day works

The van needs a level, firm spot it can drive onto, close to where people will eat, which we agree with you beforehand. Golden-hour photos in Newtown at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:45pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. We start with a few details about your wedding.
  2. We check the date and where the van will park, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the van’s spot are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we park up and fry fresh for your guests.
  5. Everything goes out hot from the hatch, and we pack up afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Get permission for the van from the venue
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Name one person we can call on the day

Choosing a fish and chip van

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your wedding in Newtown

How far is Newtown from London?

About 49 miles from central London, and well within our area.

We are gathering after a service at Christ Church: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

What does it cost to hire the van?

We quote for each booking, based on your numbers and timings. Give us your date, numbers and serving time and we’ll reply with a price.

When should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

Will guests take photos at the van?

Many couples love having it in the photos. If not, ask your venue to park it out of the main photo spots.

What if we only have street parking?

It depends on the road. Off-road parking is usually simpler; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

Keeping choices simple and sending people up in groups helps. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do.

About the food

Cod and chips

For many people, cod and chips is the definitive version. Cooked fresh at the hatch, it is hot, crisp and generous.

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it is a favourite in colder months.

Prices and what affects them

There is nothing hidden: the quote reflects:

  • How far we travel
  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The length of service
  • How many people are eating

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. We will tell you up front.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • A picture of the parking spot
  • Your date and serving time
  • Expected numbers

Not sure of numbers yet? No problem: tell us the basics about your wedding, and we will quote on that. Start when you are ready: use our quote form.

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, fish and chips is hot and fresh, and nothing sits out drying up. The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

What you get with us
