Wedding fish and chip van for Totland events

Wedding fish and chip van in Totland, cooked to order

Evening wedding food from a fish and chip van is a favourite. Hours after the wedding breakfast, guests are ready to eat again, and fish and chips from the hatch is exactly what they want. For barn weddings and informal weddings, we will put together a menu of haddock and chips, curry sauce and sausage and chips and more.

For a smaller place like Totland, a garden or farm wedding is often the dream. We need level, firm ground and a way in. We keep the menu short: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

Allergies and dietary needs

We take allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Plan bins by the hatch
  • Ensure we have someone to call on the day
  • Talk to us about evening numbers
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who can’t eat from the van

After service, we pack up quietly and leave you to the party.

Let the DJ or band announce when the food is ready.

The process

If the plan changes on the day, a quick word is all it takes: we will adjust start times and pace. In Totland, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:05pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

How to prepare

  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Have a level parking spot ready

Occasions we serve in Totland

It’s food every generation enjoys.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. In Totland, people book us for occasions like:

  • Barn weddings
  • Food after the first dance
  • Wedding after-parties
  • Seaside-themed weddings

After a ceremony at a church like Christ Church, many couples move to a marquee or hall nearby, which is where the van comes in.

15 questions to ask before you book

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, a chip van serves hot food fresh from the fryer, and nothing sits out drying up. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. We’ll send you a quote.

What you get with us

  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Bookings across the Isle of Wight, including Totland
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site

Getting married in Totland?

Totland is about 5 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. Totland is well within our area, so your wedding just needs a date, a spot for the van and a serving time. We take the van to 125 places in the Isle of Wight. We serve events right across the region, from Totland to Southampton (18 miles away).

Tennyson Down nearby makes a lovely backdrop for photos, and the countryside around Totland suits an outdoor reception. With the coast within about a mile, fish and chips suits a seaside-style wedding. We will think about shelter from sea breezes.

For weddings in PO39 and PO40, we just need to know where the van can park and roughly how many guests. Your wedding could be at a house on Meadow Barn Close, Ward Road and Weston Road or the roads around them, wherever the van can park. Totland sits on or near the B3322, which makes travel to your wedding easy. If your venue is just outside Totland, we also cover Colwell (1 mile north-east), Freshwater (1 mile east), Easton (1 mile east), Norton Green (1 mile north-east) and Afton (1 mile east). Some remote sites need extra planning, so ask early about your wedding.

Before you choose a spot

Every site is different, so we ask about the spot and the way in before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • A lit spot if service runs after dark
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates

Totland is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For a crowd, a van is generally simpler.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Organising for someone else?

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you are a planner, a facilities manager or an organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Hosting at home? Send a picture of where the van would park, and we will let you know if the van will fit.

Food your guests will love

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it’s a favourite in colder months.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Ask us about offering haddock alongside or instead of cod.

FAQs for Totland

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. Wind doesn’t affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

We are gathering after a service at Christ Church: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you park on the road outside?

It depends on the road. A drive, car park or yard is generally easier; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

Can you park near the barn?

Normally, with the venue’s agreement and firm ground. We will agree the spot in advance.

How fast is service?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. We will talk it through when we quote.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Normally, if it is firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

What time is best for the van?

Generally between about 8pm and 9:30pm, once the first dance is done. We will work to your timings.

What areas do you cover?

We cover London and the South East, including the Isle of Wight. See all areas.
