Book the van in West Reading

West Reading: your questions answered

Could you trade in Round Copse?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Mark: can you come?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

Can you park near the barn?

That’s up to your venue, but close to the party is best. A photo of the area helps.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

How many portions do we need?

That depends on your day. Many couples cater for most of the evening list.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

When should evening food go out?

Normally between about 8pm and 9:30pm, after the first dance. We will fit your running order.

Wedding fish and chip van for your wedding in West Reading

The van parks near the marquee, barn or venue, and guests drift out to queue and chat. It becomes a lovely moment in the evening. For weddings with a seaside feel and weddings in a marquee or garden, we can cook mushy peas, cod and chips and curry sauce.

Weddings in a place like West Reading often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. We park close by for evening food. Let us know about access for the van. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your wedding, so the batter is still crisp when it is handed over.

How the day works

You will know we are ready when the smell of frying drifts over, about the time the first guests wander across. After that, it’s a steady flow to the hatch. At midsummer, sunset in West Reading is about 9:25pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. We agree exactly where the van parks, and how it gets in.
  4. On the day, everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits in a hot cabinet.
  5. The pitch is left tidy when we go.

Before you choose a spot

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but a few things matter:

  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service
  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

From the hatch

  • Cod and chips
  • Curry sauce
  • Mushy peas
  • Haddock and chips
  • Sausage and chips

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. With a van, it is fried on the spot.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

How we price a fish and chip van for your wedding

There are no hidden charges: the quote reflects:

  • The menu and how many choices
  • Distance and any road charges
  • Any minimum charge
  • How long we serve

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your wedding.

Details that help

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Where you’d like the van to go

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, address, numbers and serving time. You can send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Not every evening guest eats: ask us how many to plan for
  • Ask your venue about catering vans first
  • Don’t forget your suppliers
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

It is kind to include suppliers working late when you give us numbers.

A covered route from the marquee to the van helps if it rains.

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Gravy

A pot of gravy turns chips into comfort food, especially in winter.
