Christmas party fish and chips in Ringmer, fried fresh

The Christmas season is short and busy, so ask as soon as you know yours. Popular choices include pie and chips, cod and chips and haddock and chips, and we are frequently booked for end-of-year customer events and depot Christmas treats.

In Ringmer, festive gatherings tend to be at home or the hall. We need firm ground and some light. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and handed over as soon as it is ready.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear. What affects it most:

  • The length of service
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • Numbers
  • How far we travel

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

Getting an accurate quote

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but these help:

  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • A picture of where the van would go

We only need a few details to quote: date, address, numbers and serving time. To send them, use our quote form.

Festive bookings around Ringmer

Ringmer is about 3 miles north-east of Lewes, in East Sussex. For Christmas parties in Ringmer, we plan around your venue and timings: a quote, a parking spot and fresh frying on the day. Ringmer is one of 289 places in East Sussex we cover. You can also see our page for Brighton, about 9 miles away.

For anyone getting the train home after the party, the nearest station is Glynde station, about 2.4 miles south. A winter fair at a school like Ringmer Primary and Nursery School gets dark early, so hot food from a van is popular. Ringmer is within about 3 miles of the South Downs National Park; in winter, rural routes need a bit more planning.

Here we cover the BN8 postcode area. Whether your Christmas party is on Ashcroft Close, Springett Avenue and Danforth Way or a nearby road, we will bring the van to you. About the food

Pie and chips

For a heartier option, there is pie and chips, perfect with gravy.

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, great with chips and sausages.

Before you choose a spot

If a spot isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you, and help find another. The main points are:

  • A clear area by the serving hatch
  • A short walk from the party
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

For planners, venues and organisers

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep everyone informed on the day.

Planning for dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer. To make it work smoothly:

  • Let us know about coeliac disease
  • Ensure the van and queue are well lit
  • Plan an alternative for anyone we can’t cater for
  • Tell facilities or the venue about the van

Keep the walk from the door to the van short.

A chip van compared with other options

For a Christmas party that feels a bit different, a chip van is hard to beat. Most vans have a minimum charge, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We will tell you up front.

Why Ringmer hosts choose us

  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Rain doesn’t stop the fryers
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm
  • No surprises in your quote

DIY versus a fish and chip van

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For a crowd, a van is usually simpler.

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

The process

Service is quick: food goes from the fryer to the hatch. Afterwards we pack up. By about 3:55pm in late December, it’s dark in Ringmer; park the van where there is good light, and keep the walk short.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Common questions in Ringmer

How far is Ringmer from London?

Roughly 42 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Can the van go to venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Can you serve in the cold?

The fryers are inside the van, so we carry on. Plan a short, lit route from the door to the hatch.

Is there a non-fish option?

There is: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Give us a rough idea of numbers.

How soon do we need to book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

How early do Christmas dates go?

As early as possible. Fridays in December book up first.

How long are you on site?

We arrive well before service to park and heat the fryers. We’ll agree arrival and serving times with you so food is ready when you want it.

Where can the van park?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, near your guests, and space for a queue. Mention any narrow gates or soft ground.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
