Christmas party fish and chips in Selling, cooked to order

The van parks outside and serves hot food, without anyone leaving site. On the menu are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy, and we’re regularly asked to cater lights switch-on events and new Year parties.

In a small place like Selling, December lanes are dark, so tell us about the route and lighting at the spot. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

What comes out of the fryer

Cod and chips

For many people, cod and chips is the definitive version. Cooked fresh at the hatch, it’s hot, crisp and generous.

Gravy

Chips and gravy is a favourite in the north and the Midlands, and it’s lovely with a pie.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

Selling: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Selling?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

How far is Selling from London?

Roughly 47 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Generally, if it’s firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

Do you have allergen information?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Battered fish contains fish and, in standard batter, gluten. Tell us about allergies in advance.

Do we need to provide anything?

Tell us what’s available at the site when you enquire, and we’ll confirm what we need.

What food do you serve?

Proper fish and chips, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

How soon do we need to book?

The sooner the better. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Do you cater Christmas fairs?

Yes. Send us the event details and the pitch information.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

For something other than turkey, a chip van is hard to beat in Selling. Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.

Why us?

  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones

How it works

Service is quick: everything is handed over hot from the hatch. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy. In December, it is dark in Selling by about 3:50pm, so even a late-afternoon Christmas party needs lighting by the van and the queue. A lunchtime party is the only one served in good daylight.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Let us know the serving time

Prices and what affects them

The same numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • How long we serve
  • Any minimum charge

  • How many people are eating

  • A route in without tight gates or low branches

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Allergies and dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer. To make it work smoothly:

  • Let us know about coeliac disease
  • December Fridays go first: book early
  • Tell facilities or the venue about the van
  • Ask about allergies on the party invitation

A gazebo or covered doorway near the hatch helps on a wet night.

A hot drinks station run by your team pairs well with the van.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
