Fresh fish and chips in Climping

How our corporate fish and chip catering works in Climping

Facilities can deal with us directly, and we will go through what your site needs from us. We’re often asked to cater open days and customer events and warehouse, depot and site teams, serving pie and chips, haddock and chips and mushy peas.

Rural businesses around Climping can be a long way from anywhere to buy lunch, which makes a chip van a real treat. We cook inside the van, right where your staff are, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the spot and the way in before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • A spot near your staff
  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

About the food

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Curry sauce

Some people will not eat chips without curry sauce and it is on the menu.

Business events near Climping

Climping is about 2 miles west of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. From the centre of Climping to the outskirts, we offer the same service: fish and chips fried to order, served hot and quoted clearly. Climping is one of 371 towns and villages in West Sussex where we bring the van. Our nearest city page is Brighton, about 19 miles away.

Nearby historic houses include Ecclesden Manor (4.7 miles east). For a client event at a historic house, ask early about rules for catering vans. Commuters will know that the closest railway station is Littlehampton station, roughly 1.2 miles east of the centre. With the South Downs National Park within about 7 miles, rural team days are easy to arrange. The coast is within about 2 miles, so a chip van lunch feels like a day at the seaside.

For staff events in BN17, we just need to know where the van can park and a serving time. Local streets include Church Lane, Horsemere Green Lane and Crookthorn Lane; a staff event on any of them works well with a drive or nearby car park. If your venue is just outside Climping, we also cover Horsemere Green (1 mile west), Atherington (1 mile south), Ford (1 mile north), Wick (1 mile north-east) and Tortington (2 miles north). We also serve nearby towns such as Worthing (8 miles east), Bognor Regis (5 miles west), Chichester (9 miles west), Selsey (11 miles south-west), Shoreham-by-Sea (13 miles east) and Lancing (11 miles east).

Other landmarks nearby include Arundel and District Hospital (3 miles north) and Rustington Museum (3 miles east). Open spaces near Climping include WWT Arundel.

  • Nearby schools include The Littlehampton Academy (1.8 miles east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Black Horse Public House (0.7 miles south)

A chip van compared with other options

Taking the team out for a meal means booking, travel and time away from site. The van brings lunch to the team. There is no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.

Why book our van in Climping

  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • Bookings across West Sussex, including Climping
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies

See our prices page and our guide to van hire costs.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and nobody has to miss the staff event.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Working with your venue

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Climping: your questions answered

Do you come to venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Is Climping too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays and Christmas party Fridays. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

What can staff choose from?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

Do you do anything other than fish?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.

Can you come onto our site?

Your facilities team decides, but a car park or yard is usually ideal.

Do we need to provide anything?

A suitable spot for the van and permission to park there. Mention any power or water available and we’ll take it from there.

Planning for dietary needs

With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. We suggest:

  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Send round an allergy question
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Ask facilities what paperwork they need

When service is finished, we pack up.

A sign in reception or a team message builds the excitement.

What a fish and chip van costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Your choice of menu
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • Access and parking
  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays

Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Anything awkward about the way in
  • Where the van would park
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Your date and serving time

Every quote is worked out for your event. Start with your date, and we’ll check availability right away.

The process

The smell of the fryers does the inviting. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, and chips are fried in batches through service. In Climping, a summer staff event stays light until about 9:20pm; for winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting.

  1. Send us the date, site, headcount and break times.
  2. You get a quote and answers to facilities’ questions.
  3. We agree where the van parks and when it arrives with you or facilities.
  4. We cook to order for each group as they come out.
  5. Afterwards, we pack up and leave the car park tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Name one person we can call on the day
