What comes out of the fryer

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Cooked fresh at the hatch, it goes out hot and crisp.

Curry sauce

Curry sauce divides opinion and it’s on the menu.

Corporate fish and chip catering in Watt's Cross, fried fresh

The van parks in the car park or yard, so nobody has to leave site. On the menu are haddock and chips, sausage and chips and pie and chips, and we’re regularly asked to cater a monthly Fish Friday and retirement and leaving lunches.

Near Watt's Cross, workplaces can be far from shops, so a chip van lunch is welcome. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

What affects the price in Watt's Cross

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • The minimum booking
  • Parking and the way in
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • The menu and how many choices

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

Getting an accurate quote

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • A picture of where the van would go

It’s easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll come back with a clear quote.

Questions from Watt's Cross

Is Watt's Cross too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can the van go to venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Which areas do you serve?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Watt's Cross.

What’s on the menu?

Fish and chips, of course, plus sausage or pie and chips. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

Can you serve children?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we will include them in the plan.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Our battered fish contains gluten, because standard batter uses wheat flour. Tell us about coeliac staff when you enquire, and we will be straight with you about what’s possible.

Do you take everything away?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

Is there a non-fish option?

There is: sausages and pies, with chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

The process

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, park the van and get the fryers going. Your staff can wander over to the hatch once service starts. For an end-of-day event in Watt's Cross, summer gives you light until about 9:20pm; in late May, sunset is around 8:50pm, and in winter the yard or car park will need lighting.

  1. Send us the date, site, headcount and break times.
  2. We check the site and send a price and any details facilities need.
  3. We agree where the van parks and when it arrives with you or facilities.
  4. On the day we set up and fry to order through the agreed service time.
  5. We clear up and leave the site as we found it.

How to prepare

  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van
  • Give us a contact for the day

Planning help

Should I sort the food myself?

Weighing up a takeaway order against booking a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Check with facilities where the van can park
  • Ask staff to pre-order
  • Arrange something for anyone with needs we cannot meet
  • Tell us exactly when each group can eat

We get there ahead of the lunch break, so we are ready when the first group comes out.

Cover near the van keeps the queue dry.

Space, access and the venue

The van has to be able to get in and park safely, so a few things need checking. These are the things we check:

  • A clear area by the serving hatch
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

From the hatch

  • Haddock and chips
  • Staff lunches
  • Mushy peas
  • Pie and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Cod and chips
