Schedules move, so give us a contact on the day and we’ll work around it. On the menu are haddock and chips, pie and chips and sausage and chips, and we’re regularly asked to cater music video shoots and period dramas on location.

Near Ardington, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. Food is served straight from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and service is quick once we are up and running.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is typically the easier option.

How it works

If the plan changes on the day, a quick word is all it takes: we’ll adjust start times and pace. Winter shoots near Ardington chase the light, which goes at about 4:00pm in December, so lunch at base is often in daylight but a wrap meal isn’t.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day

Haddock and chips

Haddock has a slightly sweeter flavour and a firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan.

Questions from Ardington

Is Ardington too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is Ardington close to London?

About 56 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you have allergen information?

Let us know about allergies in advance, and we will give you the allergen information.

What does the van need?

Not much: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, with a clear way in. If in doubt, send a photo.

Do numbers include extras?

Of course. Let us know total numbers.

Do you cater wrap parties?

We do. It is a great way to end a shoot.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Tell us about coeliac crew when you enquire, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible.

How long are you on site?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

Allergies and dietary needs

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Ask for dietary needs on the crew info form
  • Make sure we can reach locations on the day
  • Update numbers if they change
  • Confirm allergies by email

After service, we pack up and get out of the way.

Cover near the hatch helps on wet days.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Wrap parties add up. A van makes a relaxed wrap. Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.

Why Ardington hosts choose us

  • Rain doesn’t stop the fryers
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • Served hot, straight from the hatch

Take a look at our prices page or the cost guide.

Before you choose a spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Agreement from the location manager and landowner
  • Lighting for early or late service
  • A queue area clear of trucks

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Working with your venue

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. Ask the council or landowner early.

For repeat bookings, such as regular staff lunches or annual fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

What a fish and chip van costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Service time
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • How easy the site is to reach
