Film set catering in Bolney, cooked to order

Everything is cooked as crew come up, so it is hot when the break is called. Whether it is unit base lunches and crew treats on long shoot days, we can cook mushy peas, cod and chips and haddock and chips.

Rural locations near Bolney can be a long way from food, so a van at base is a big help. We serve from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and service is quick once we are up and running.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Ordering takeaway to a location is unreliable. The van cooks on site. The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why book our van in Bolney

  • No surprises in your quote
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • Quick service from the hatch

Read our pricing or the cost guide.

Allergies and dietary needs

We take allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Send the unit base address and directions
  • Update numbers if they change
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Have a back-up for special diets

A short menu keeps the line moving in a lunch break.

Tables or a marquee at base make lunch comfortable.

Perfect for your shoot in Bolney

Rain doesn’t stop the fryers.

Choosing a fish and chip van

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for the crew in Bolney

Do you come to venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Is Bolney too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Do you clear up afterwards?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

How long does set-up take?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

Is the food cooked at the event?

It is. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

Not as standard: batter is normally made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do before you book.

Can you park at the unit base?

Yes, on level ground at base; we will check the route.

What does it cost to hire the van?

Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you need. Give us your date, numbers and serving time for a clear quote.

A closer look at the menu

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal, especially in winter.

Curry sauce

Some people won’t eat chips without curry sauce and it’s on the menu.

Space, access and the venue

Plenty of places work for the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • Away from the shooting area’s sound
  • A route in the van can manage, with no low branches or tight lanes
  • Agreement from the location manager and landowner

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

The process

We arrive on time, pulls onto the spot you’ve chosen. Once the oil is hot, the first portions go out at the time you asked for. Daylight is short on winter shoots near Bolney: sunset is about 3:55pm, so lunch at base is frequently in daylight but a wrap meal isn’t.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check access and send a quote.
  3. We arrange the van’s spot at the unit base with locations.
  4. We cook to order through the crew’s lunch break.
  5. We pack up straight after service and leave the base tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
