On a long shoot day, a good hot lunch keeps morale up. We park at the unit base and cook to order. We are often asked to cater location filming and wrap celebrations, serving sausage and chips, mushy peas and pie and chips.

In Church End, unit bases are frequently in car parks or yards. The location manager will arrange the van’s spot. Everything is fried fresh at your shoot, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How far we travel
  • The day of the week
  • Service time
  • The minimum booking

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

Getting an accurate quote

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • The date and time of the event
  • A photo of the space and the way in
  • Rough numbers for adults and children

Every booking is quoted individually, based on your numbers, timings and travel. To ask for one, fill in our quote form.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

A full location catering unit suits long shoots with three meals a day. A van is great for short jobs and crew treats. Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll suggest how to make it work. A short menu is often the best value.

Why us?

  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • No kitchen needed
  • A quote that spells everything out

See our pricing or the cost guide.

The process

The smell of the fryers does the inviting. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, and chips are fried in batches through service. On a winter shoot near Church End, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. In summer, light lasts until about 9:20pm.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

How to prepare

  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Give us a contact for the day

  • Give us a contact for call-time changes

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we will work through them with you.

Parks, greens and streets normally need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.

Church End: your questions answered

Can the van park in Victoria Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

What about parking in Church End?

London parking needs planning: let us know about off-street space or permits. We’ll work around it.

Do you bring everything you need?

Everything is cooked in the van. Tell us about power, water and bins at the site and we’ll confirm what we need.

How much space do you need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, close to where people will eat, and space for a queue. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Of course. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include children in your numbers.

How much does a fish and chip van for the crew cost in Church End?

It depends on numbers, the menu, how long we serve and travel. Tell us about your shoot and we’ll send a quote.

Does the batter contain gluten?

No, not as standard: batter is normally made with wheat flour. Tell us about any coeliac crew and we will explain the options before you book.

Do you take everything away?

We pack up and leave the pitch tidy when service is finished. Tell us where bins can go for people’s paper and trays.
