How we price a fish and chip van for the crew

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • The length of service
  • Numbers
  • The day of the week
  • Travel, tolls and road charges

Travel, tolls and charges such as ULEZ can affect the price, so tell us exactly where your shoot is.

What to tell us

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Expected numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Dietary needs, with numbers

Not sure of numbers yet? No problem: give us a rough idea and the date, and we’ll quote on that. Start when you’re ready: fill in our quote form.

Film set catering in Curteis' Corner, cooked to order

Shoot days are long, and a hot lunch on time matters. We park at the unit base and cook to order. We serve pie and chips, mushy peas and cod and chips, and we’re often booked for unit base lunches and period dramas on location.

Near Curteis' Corner, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so a van at base is a big help. Everything we need comes with the van, and we pack up and leave the spot as we found it.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, park on the agreed spot, and get on with frying and serving. Sunset in Curteis' Corner is about 8:50pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September; for early or late service, base needs lighting.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is usually simpler.

Looking after everyone

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Send the unit base address and directions
  • Update numbers if they change
  • Collect diets and allergies with crew details
  • Flag any coeliac crew

Lunch is planned around the call sheet, and a contact keeps us updated.

End the shoot with a chip van wrap.

FAQs for Curteis' Corner

Which station is closest to Curteis' Corner?

The closest is Headcorn station, roughly 2.9 miles away.

Is Curteis' Corner too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you need power or water?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there is power or water nearby and we will take it from there.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Generally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so plan a back-up spot.

What food do you serve?

The classics: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

How long will the queue be?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

Can you cater for allergies?

Tell us about allergies when you book, and we’ll tell you what’s in each item.

Can you serve children?

Children are very welcome. Tell us how many children, and we’ll plan for them.

Food your guests will love

Sausage and chips

For anyone who doesn’t fancy fish, there is sausage and chips, and children love it.

Curry sauce

Some people won’t eat chips without curry sauce, so we bring it along.
