Fresh fish and chips in Durlock

Film set catering in Durlock, fried fresh

On a long shoot day, a good hot lunch keeps morale up. We park at the unit base and cook to order. Popular choices include pie and chips, cod and chips and sausage and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater stills shoots and commercials and music videos.

Near Durlock, check tracks and ground for the van with locations. Everything is fried fresh at your shoot, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

A chip van compared with other options

A full location catering unit suits long shoots with three meals a day. A chip van suits short shoots and treat days. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu and timing to match. A short menu is often the best value.

Why Durlock hosts choose us

  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • No kitchen needed
  • No surprises in your quote
  • Classic food your crew already know

Planning for dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Send final numbers the day before
  • Flag any coeliac crew
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Agree how the base is left

We take our used oil and waste with us.

A quick pre-order speeds things up.

About the food

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it’s especially welcome on a cold day.

Gravy

In the north and the Midlands, gravy is the side of choice, and it is lovely with a pie.

How it works

Service is quick: food goes from the fryer to the hatch, and people can eat where they like. Afterwards we pack up. Sunset in Durlock is about 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September; for early or late service, base needs lighting.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Planners, venues and businesses

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. Ask the council or landowner early.

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Sending people up in groups helps.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • The menu and how many choices
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • The day of the week
  • How many people are eating

A chip van often compares well with a plated meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. Ask us for a quote.
