Film set catering in Ewelme, cooked to order

A chip van is a popular crew treat on a long shoot. Whether it’s end-of-shoot parties and treat days on a long shoot, we can cook sausage and chips, cod and chips and haddock and chips for your guests.

For a shoot in a place like Ewelme, tracks and soft ground need checking. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your shoot, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the shoot.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Before you choose a spot

We’ll agree the van’s spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Away from the shooting area’s sound
  • Room for the crew to queue
  • Access checked by locations

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

What we serve

  • Crew lunches
  • Cod and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Haddock and chips
  • Pie and chips

How it works

The van turns up at the agreed time, parks where we agreed. When the fryers are up to heat, service starts right on schedule. On a winter shoot near Ewelme, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. First, tell us about your shoot.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the parking spot.
  4. On the day, we park up and fry fresh for the crew.
  5. Everything goes out hot from the hatch, and we pack up afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Ensure the van can get in
  • Get permission for the van from the venue

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is Ewelme close to London?

About 43 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What does the van need?

Not much: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, that the van can reach easily. Send us a picture if you’re not sure.

What if we only have street parking?

Only where it’s legal to park, or with a council parking suspension or road closure. Ask your council early.

Can the van come to our wrap?

Yes, it’s a popular wrap. Tell us the details.

What do we need to supply?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Mention any power or water available and we’ll confirm the rest.

Do you have documents for productions?

Productions vary, so send us the list and we will go through it.

Is the food cooked at the event?

Yes. We fry to order in the van at your venue, then handed over hot from the hatch.

Diets, allergies and planning

Tell us about dietary needs and allergies early, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer. To get it right:

  • Let us know about coeliac disease
  • Give us a map or what3words for base
  • Collect diets and allergies with crew details
  • Name a contact in the production office

Tell us if supporting artists are eating.

Pre-orders from the crew help on tight breaks.
