Film set catering in Hammer Bottom, fried fresh

Shoot days are long, and a hot lunch on time matters. A fish and chip van parks at the unit base and fries to order. Typical bookings include location filming and end-of-shoot parties, serving mushy peas, pie and chips and cod and chips.

For a shoot in a place like Hammer Bottom, tracks and soft ground need checking. We keep the menu short: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

How the day works

There’s very little for you to do on the day: show us the spot, tell us when to start, and enjoy your shoot. We handle the cooking and serving. In December, daylight in Hammer Bottom ends around 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day
  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Keep space clear for crew at the hatch

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Distance and any road charges
  • Parking and the way in
  • The number of meals
  • Whether a minimum applies

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu and timing to match. Keeping the menu short is normally the best value.

Common questions in Hammer Bottom

What’s the nearest station to Hammer Bottom?

Haslemere station, about 1.9 miles east of the centre.

Is Hammer Bottom too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

What areas do you cover?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Can the van come to our wrap?

We do. It is a great way to end a shoot.

Can the van park on grass?

Normally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

What if we only have street parking?

Only where it’s legal to park, or with a council parking suspension or road closure. Check with your council first.

Can you work to the call sheet?

Schedules move, and we plan for it. A contact on the day is all we need.

What do you bring?

All the cooking happens in the van. Tell us about power, water and bins at the site and we’ll confirm what we need.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Sending people up in groups helps.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
