About our film set catering in Padbury

Food is fried to order, so lunch is hot and fresh. We serve haddock and chips, sausage and chips and cod and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater fashion shoots on location and location shoots.

Rural locations near Padbury can be a long way from food, so lunch at base matters. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

Common questions in Padbury

Is Padbury too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is Padbury from London?

Roughly 49 miles from the centre of London.

Can you work to the call sheet?

Schedules move, and we plan for it. A contact on the day is all we need.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain doesn’t stop the fryers: the cooking is inside the van. It’s worth planning some cover for the queue.

What can crew choose from?

Chip-shop favourites: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Give us your numbers and service window, and we’ll plan service around it.

Can the van park on grass?

Generally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

How much space do you need?

Less than you might think: a drive, a car park, a yard or a firm lawn, with a clear way in. Send us a picture if you are not sure.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Many locations are miles from shops. The van solves that. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your shoot.

Why book with us

What happens on the day

We do not cook ahead. Fish is battered and fried when people come up to the hatch, so it’s as fresh as from any chip shop. Daylight is short on winter shoots near Padbury: sunset is about 3:55pm, so lunch at base is often in daylight but a wrap meal isn’t.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

Preparing for the day

  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day

What a fish and chip van costs

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How long we serve
  • Your choice of menu
  • Whether a minimum applies

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

What to tell us

To check availability and price, we need:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • Roughly how many people, including children

Each quote is put together for your shoot. Give us your date first, and we’ll check availability right away.

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Tell us what your venue needs and we will work through them with you.

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Sending people up in groups helps.

Allergies and dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Confirm numbers the day before
  • Give us a contact for call-time changes
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Put allergy details in writing

We set up at the unit base ahead of lunch, out of the way.

End the shoot with a chip van wrap.

What the van needs

The van has to be able to get in and park safely, and a little planning goes a long way. These are the things we check:

  • Room for the crew to queue
  • Permission for the van at base
  • A level, firm spot at the unit base

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. Ask us for a quote and compare.

For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and you get to enjoy the day.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
