A chip van compared with other options

Takeaway rarely reaches a location hot. A van cooks at the unit base. The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

About our film set catering in Plaistow Green

Seaside and period locations suit a fish and chip van perfectly. On the menu are pie and chips, haddock and chips and sausage and chips, and we are often booked for wrap celebrations and live events and broadcasts.

Near Plaistow Green, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. We serve from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

The process

We take care of the food from arrival to the last chip, so you can get on with your shoot. At midsummer, Plaistow Green has light until about 9:25pm.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check the route and the unit base and send a price.
  3. We agree the van’s position and arrival with the location manager.
  4. We serve hot from the hatch when lunch is called.
  5. Afterwards we pack up and leave the unit base clean.

Before we arrive

  • Keep space clear for crew at the hatch
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain

Getting a price

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. You can send us your details through our quote form.

15 questions to ask before you book

Takeaway run or book a van?

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

  • Level, firm ground at base

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.
