Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?

Long shoots usually need a full catering unit. A chip van suits short shoots and treat days. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

Why book with us

  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • Something for crew to gather round
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side

Film set catering for your shoot in Trolliloes

A chip van fits right in at seaside locations. We’re often asked to cater music video shoots and stills shoots, serving mushy peas, cod and chips and haddock and chips.

Rural locations near Trolliloes can be a long way from food, so lunch at base matters. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll be straight with you about what we can do before you book.

Diets, allergies and planning

Tell us about dietary needs and allergies early, and we will be straight with you about what’s possible. To get it right:

  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Make sure we can reach locations on the day
  • Arrange something for anyone with needs we can’t meet
  • Collect diets and allergies with crew details

We set up at the unit base ahead of lunch.

A chip van wrap party is a great way to finish a shoot.

The process

Service is quick: everything is handed over hot from the hatch, and people can eat where they like. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy. Winter shoots near Trolliloes chase the light, which goes at about 3:55pm in December, so lunch at base is often in daylight but a wrap meal isn’t.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the van can get in
  • Share the timings for the day
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely

Organising for someone else?

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. Ask the council or landowner early.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Choosing a fish and chip van

Trolliloes: your questions answered

Do you come to venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Trolliloes too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What does the van need?

Less than you might think: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, with a clear way in. Send us a photo if you are not sure.

Do you cover Trolliloes?

Yes. We take the van across London and the South East, including Trolliloes. To check your date, use our quote form.

What can crew choose from?

Proper fish and chips, plus sausage or pie and chips. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack up and leave the pitch tidy when service is finished. Let us know about bins for crew.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

That depends on numbers, menu and timing. Give us your numbers and service window, and we will plan service around it.

Is everything cooked fresh?

It is. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, rather than made in advance.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • The menu and how many choices
  • Whether a minimum applies

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest how to make it work. Keeping the menu short is usually the best value.

Details that help

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • A photo of the space and the way in
  • The date and time of the event
  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • Anything awkward about the way in

Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you actually need. To ask for one, use our quote form.
